The activities and the methods applied to develop such activities are oriented to the student reaching the learning outcomes linked to the competences trained in the course, and in the learning module in which the course is inserted: R03, R04, R05, and R06. The course is structured around activities in large group (3 hours per week), activities in small group (1 hour every fortnight) and group tutorials (1 hour every fitnight). Through these activities the student:
- Will acquire and understand the knowledge that defines and articulates psychology as a scientific discipline within the study of the processes of conditioning and learning (R03).
- Will study and analyze the different theoretical models that apply to learning and conditioning, its fundaments, differences, and limitations (R05).
- Will learn to emit grounded judgments about social, scientific, or ethical problems (R04) related to learning and conditioning
- Project oriented methodology developed in small groups activities allow the student to apply the knowledge acquired during large group activities to resolution of real theoretical and practical problems (R06).
The different evaluation tests described in the evaluation section allow verifying the level of performance reached by each student in reaching the above learning outcomes.
1.- Activities in large groups:
Three weekly hours of lectures in which the contents of the course will be explained. Attendance and regular work is required. During class, different theoretical-practical activities will be programmed with the goal of facilitating the assimilation of the theoretical contents of the course by the student. These activities will require the assistance, implication, and autonomous work of the students. Periodically, some classes will be devoted to global tutoring (112.5 total hours of student work).
2.- Activities in small groups:
One hour every other week students will analyzes and discuss real theoretical and practical problems derived from the subject's agenda as a way of reinforcing the understanding of the theoretical concepts discussed in large group classes. The student body will receive a series of problems that they will have to try to solve individually, dedicating the contact hours to the discussion and analysis of the solutions and problems that have been raised. This work and the participation will be evaluated continuously throughout the development of the practical sessions.
3.- Tutoring. In order to solve questions about the subject, individual and group attention will be enabled.
Supervision and report handling deadlines are mandatory. Missing any deadline will negatively affect the activity evaluation.
Students with special educational needs should contact the Student Attention Service (Servicio de Atención y Ayudas al Estudiante) in order to receive the appropriate academic support
The final goal of the evaluation system is to verify that the students have acquired the learning outcomes that are expected from the course. Academic performance will be evaluated through a series of written exams (R03, R04, R05 and (R06). In such evaluation students should show that:
- They have acquired and understood the knowledge that defines and articulates psychology as a scientific discipline within the study of the processes of conditioning and learning (R03).
- They are able to analyze the different theoretical models that apply to learning and conditioning, its fundaments, differences, and limitations (R05).
- They have learned to emit grounded judgments about social, scientific, or ethical problems (R04) related to learning and conditioning
- They know how to apply the knowledge acquired during large group activities to resolution of real problems (R06).
Formative evaluation through continuous evaluation (CE) (35%):
The participation and active involvement of the student in large group and small group classes (15%) and the performance of programmed activities and their impact on the training of the student body of the activities programmed on the virtual teaching platform (20%) will be evaluated through 10 continuous evaluation exams that will be carried out randomly at the beginning or end of classes in a large group or small group.
In order that the student body is not harmed by unexpected absences, only the results of the 8 CE exams with the best grade will be taken into the continuous evaluation grade, discarding the other 2.
Formative evaluation through a final exam (FE):
Subject contents (65%): They are evaluated through the final exam according to the calendar established by the Faculty of Humanities and Educational Sciences. The exam grade will determine the final evaluation grade.
Summative evaluation (grading):
The final grade in the subject corresponds to the sum of the weighted grades of continuous evaluation and final evaluation, and it is necessary that at least 4 (out of 10) be obtained in the theory exam.
FINAL GRADE (FG) = [(CE*3.5) + (FE*6.5)]/10
The CE grades will be valid for the ordinary and extraordinary calls of the current course and for the extraordinary call I (September-October) of the following course.
Bonuses for participation in experiments. For each exam session, students may contribute up to five participations in research developed in the Department of Psychology and authorized by the subject's teaching staff. Each participation will mean an additional increase of 0.1 points in the final grade and up to a maximum of 0.5.
Regarding extraordinary calls, the following should be taken into account:
1) For the evaluation of the extraordinary call II (June-July) the EC grade will be the one obtained in the current course; and for the extraordinary call I (September-October) the one obtained in the immediately preceding course.
2) In extraordinary calls, students may waive the continuous evaluation qualification within the deadlines established and advertised on the virtual teaching platform. In this case, the final grade will correspond to that obtained in the exam.
