Section I:
-Introduction: The notions of national literature and the history of literature. Introduction to comparative literature. The position of Spanish literature.
Section II:
-The Greco-Latin tradition and the biblical tradition as the basis of European literatures.
Section III:
-The evolution of literature in the vulgar language throughout history, from the Middle Ages to the present day.
The learning process proposed in the subject is dynamic, with constant interaction between teachers and students. Depending on the interests and maturity of the students, changes in the reading programme can be agreed upon, always respecting the general programme.
A combination of theoretical and practical aspects is proposed.
The former will deal with the fundamental concepts and
methodological aspects in order to know and understand European
literatures and their importance in the development of Spanish
literature.
In the latter, literary texts will be critically analysed,
according to a combination of approaches (philology, literary
criticism, reading close...). A gradual development of critical
thinking is expected, in dialogue with the critical
bibliography.
It is essential to read the compulsory literary texts, which will be discussed and debated in class.
Students with special educational needs should contact the Student Attention Service (Servicio de Atención y Ayudas al Estudiante) in order to receive the appropriate academic support
Different assessment systems will be combined (among others: oral presentations, assignments and/or exams). It will be necessary to obtain a minimum grade in all the tests in order to pass the course.
