3. CONTENT DESCRIPTION

I. EARHT SURFACE PROCESSES AND LANDFORMS

  1. Weathering and erosion. The transport of the detritus: Transport Processes.
  2. Earth surface modelling processes and landforms I. Gravity driven processes and slope evolution. Fluvial processes. Groundwater and karstic landforms.
  3. Earth surface modelling processes and landforms II. Coastal processes. Sea-floor morphology. Glaciar and periglaciar processes. Eolian processes.
  4. Sedimentation. Sedimentary environments and Sedimentary depositional environments. The main continental, transitional and marine depositional sedimentary environments.

4. COURSE DESCRIPTION AND TEACHING METHODOLOGY

Lectures in large groups (3.2 ECTS): the contents will be presented through master classes, using ICT resources and other material that facilitates the autonomous work of the students. Images and videos with real examples will be used to help students understand basic general knowledge. Scientific readings and other resources will be delivered to introduce the theoretical contents and deepen the topics covered in the program.

Practical laboratory and fieldwork (2.6 ECTS): the practical laboratory classes will be held in small groups, with a methodology based fundamentally on observation and resolution of geological problems. Main activities will include the recognition of the main groups of sedimentary rocks and fossils, as well as the elaboration and interpretation of geological maps. Real samples of rocks and fossils will be handled. We will work on geological maps, from very simple theoretical examples to more complex maps, ending with the introduction to real geological maps.

The geological fieldwork practices will include two fieldtrips to nearby areas to observe and work on real examples of the contents covered in the classroom. The first fieldtrip focuses on the recognition of the main sedimentary rocks and the application of stratigraphic work methodologies. The second fieldtrip will focus on the elaboration and interpretation of geological maps in the natural environment.

5. ASSESSMENT METHODOLOGY

The final grade for the course will be the weighted average of the theoretical exam (60%), the assignments and exercises (10%), and the practical exam (30%). This average will be calculated as long as the attendance/participation in the practical and fieldtrip is equal to or greater than 80% and the marks of the theoretical and practical exams are equal to or greater than 5.

II.- EVALUATION SYSTEM

A continuous evaluation will be carried out throughout the course by means of the delivery of activities, both of the theoretical and practical content, which will represent 50% of the final grade. A final synchronous test will also be carried out

III. - RESOURCES
The computer resources provided by the University of Jaén (PLATEA, Videoconference through GoogleMeet, other applications of the Google environment: Docs, Slides, Calendar, Drive) will be used in order to encourage student participation, as well as electronic bibliographic resources available in the library of the University of Jaén.

II.- EVALUATION SYSTEM

A continuous evaluation will be carried out throughout the course by means of the delivery of activities, both of the theoretical and practical content, by the students which will represent 50% of the final qualification. A final synchronous test will also be carried out online through the PLATEA or through the Google Forms application, according to availability, on the date established by the Faculty of Experimental Sciences for each of the official calls, which will represent 50% of the final grade.

Storage periods: those established in current in force regulations. In the specific case of exam videoconference recordings, not before the examination records and transcripts are closed or the exam can still be reviewed or challenged.

Rights: you can exercise your right of access, amendment, cancellation, opposition, suppression, limitation and portability by sending a letter to the postal or electronic address indicated above.
