According to the Common Framework of Reference for Languages (Council of Europe, 2001), communicative competence in English (level B1) will be developed in terms of:
1. Linguistic competences: lexical, grammatical, semantic, phonetic-phonological, orthographic and orthoepic competences.
2. Sociolinguistic skills: linguistic markers of social relations, rules of politeness, expressions of popular wisdom, differences of register, dialect and accent.
3. Pragmatic skills: discursive and functional.
The contents of this subject will take into account topics related to the personal, public, professional and educational spheres.
The topics to be covered will be the following: -

The activities, in which the subject is articulated, are the following:

Teaching will be will be based fundamentally on the theoretical exposition of the lecturers and on the participative activity of the students. However, in order to facilitate significant learning, the development of the classes will include activities that allow debate and active participation of the students, particularly in the practical classes. These practical classes will basically consist of the development of the basic contents mentioned above.
On the other hand, the Department of English Language and Literature organises complementary academic activities on an annual basis. Those activities (conferences, seminars, symposia, etc.) that coincide with the timetable of this subject will be considered part of the course's teaching material.
Students with special educational needs should contact the Student Attention Service (Servicio de Atención y Ayudas al Estudiante) in order to receive the appropriate academic support
All the tests that students will take during the practical sessions will be assessed. They will also take a final test in which the theoretical and practical contents of the course will be developed, with specific emphasis on oral and written communication.

Purpose: In accordance with the Universities Law and other national and regional regulations in force, carrying out exams and assessment tests corresponding to the courses students are registered in. In order to avoid frauds while sitting the exam, the exam will be answered using a videoconference system, being able the academic staff of the University of Jaén to compare and contrast the image of the person who is answering the exam with the student's photographic files. Likewise, in order to provide the exam with evidential content for revisions or claims, in accordance with current regulation frameworks, the exam will be recorded and stored.
Legitimacy: compliance with legal obligations (Universities Law) and other national and regional regulations currently in force.
Addressees: service providers who are the owners of the platforms where the exams are carried out and with whom the University of Jaén has signed the corresponding data access contracts.
Storage periods: those established in current in force regulations. In the specific case of exam videoconference recordings, not before the examination records and transcripts are closed or the exam can still be reviewed or challenged.
Rights: you can exercise your right of access, amendment, cancellation, opposition, suppression, limitation and portability by sending a letter to the postal or electronic address indicated above. In the event that you consider that your rights have been violated, you may submit a complaint to the Andalusian Council for Transparency and Data Protection www.ctpdandalucia.es
