3. CONTENT DESCRIPTION

Unit 1.

  1. Why did they call you that? pronouns, adjectives, vowel sounds
  2. Life in colour: adjectives, adjective suffixes, word stress

Unit 2.

  1. Get ready! Get set! Go! Present tenses, packing, /s/,/z/and /iz/
  2. Go to checkout: possessives, shops and services,  r and final -  r

Unit 3.

  1. Grow up! past simple, past continuous, or  used to?, stages of life, -  ed endings, sentence rhythm
  2. Photo albums: prepositions, photography, word stress

Unit 4. 

  1. Don't throw it away! future forms (  will/shall and  be going to), rubbish and recycling, /ai/ and /ei/
  2. Put it on your CV: first and second conditionals, study and work, word stress

Unit 5.

  1. Screen time: present perfect simple, television, /w/, /v/ and /b/
  2. A quiet life? present perfect continuous, the country, vowel sounds, sentence rhythm

4. COURSE DESCRIPTION AND TEACHING METHODOLOGY

Lessons will consist in theoretical sessions devoted to working with communicative, lexical and grammatical aspects. Likewise, they will be articulated around oral and written practical activities. Students will also be asked to do individual and collaborative tasks. Active participation in the sessions is essential.

Students with special educational needs should contact the Student Attention Service (Servicio de Atención y Ayudas al Estudiante) in order to receive the appropriate academic support

5. ASSESSMENT METHODOLOGY

Assessment will comprise the following aspects.

  • Attendance and active involvement (20%)
  • Theoretical and practical exam (50%) [Competences: E16, CB1, G02, G06, G09, H20, H21, H23, T01, T03, T04, T05, T06, T08, T11, T12, T14]; [Learning outcomes: R25, R25, R30, R31, R33, R34, R35, R36, R38, R41, R43, R45, R57, R58].
  • An oral presentation / test and a written assignment (30%) [Competences: CB2, CB3, CB4, CB5, CB1, E16, G06, H20, H23T05, T06, T08]; [Learning outcomes: R25, R25, R30, R31, R33, R34, R35, R36, R38, R41, R43, R45, R57, R58].

The ability to succesfully communicate in English at a B2.1 level (CEFR) will be highly appreciated.

N.B.: In the resit exam, the final test will account for 100% of the final mark.

Purpose: In accordance with the Universities Law and other national and regional regulations in force, carrying out exams and assessment tests corresponding to the courses students are registered in. Addressees: service providers who are the owners of the platforms where the exams are carried out and with whom the University of Jaén has signed the corresponding data access contracts.

Storage periods: those established in current in force regulations. In the specific case of exam videoconference recordings, not before the examination records and transcripts are closed or the exam can still be reviewed or challenged.

Rights: you can exercise your right of access, amendment, cancellation, opposition, suppression, limitation and portability by sending a letter to the postal or electronic address indicated above. In the event that you consider that your rights have been violated, you may submit a complaint to the Andalusian Council for Transparency and Data Protection www.ctpdandalucia.es
