4. COURSE DESCRIPTION AND TEACHING METHODOLOGY

The activities to be carried out will be class attendance, the completion of the practicals over 10 sessions of 4 hours, 3 sessions of 4 hours of seminars with case studies and the completion of two papers, one individual to be presented and discussed with the other students and another on entrepreneurship, in two other sessions of 4 hours.

The practical workbook will also be handed in, where the basis, procedure, calculations, questions and bibliography consulted will be included.

More detailed information on the development of the activities will be provided to the students in the classroom.

The methodology will be based on practical activities (M6), resolution of exercises (M11), development of seminars (M7) and debates (M8). Throughout the 60 hours of classroom teaching of this subject, the student will acquire the competences CB2, CB4, CB3, CB5, CEQ3 and CEQ2, achieving the expected learning outcomes.

The contents of this subject connect with the following Sustainable Development Goals:

SDG 3.9 Substantially reduce the number of deaths and illnesses from hazardous chemicals and air, water and soil pollution and contamination

SDG 6.3 Improve water quality by reducing pollution, eliminating dumping and minimizing release of hazardous chemicals and materials, halving the proportion of untreated wastewater and substantially increasing recycling and safe reuse globally. 6.5 Implement integrated water resources management at all levels, including through transboundary cooperation as appropriate. 6.6 protect and restore water-related ecosystems, including mountains, forests, wetlands, rivers, aquifers and lakes

SDG 7.2 Scaling up renewable energy and 7.A. Increase research and investment in clean energy

SDG 8.4 Improving efficient and environmentally friendly production and consumption

SDG 9.4 Modernisation of infrastructure, clean technology.

SDG 11.6 Reduce environmental impacts in cities.

SDG 12.2 Achieve efficient use of natural resources, 12.4 Waste and chemical management and 12.5 Waste prevention, reduction, recycling and reuse.

SDG 13.3 Improving environmental education and awareness

SDG 15.1 Ensure the conservation and sustainable use of ecosystems.

Students with special educational needs should contact the Student Attention Service (Servicio de Atención y Ayudas al Estudiante) in order to receive the appropriate academic support

5. ASSESSMENT METHODOLOGY

The student may opt for any of the following assessment procedures included in article 13 of the 'Reglamento de Régimen Académico y de Evaluación del Alumnado de la Universidad de Jaén, approved in Consejo de Gobierno nº 33 de 21/11/2013: - Global assessment - Single test In the case of choosing the 'global assessment' procedure, the percentages of the final grade assigned to each of the different assessable aspects have been included in the assessment system indicated above. Specify that: a) Attendance and participation in face-to-face and/or virtual activities account for 10% of the final grade for the course.

In this case this 10% will reflect the student's class attendance and participation in activities throughout the whole term. Class attendance is not compulsory but, obviously, the lesser or greater degree of attendance will be reflected in the grade for this section. This aspect will be used to evaluate the acquisition of the following competences: CB2 and CEQ3. b) Theoretical oral exam on the theoretical and operative concepts of the subject. To pass the course, the score obtained in this section must be equal to or higher than 4 out of 10. If this minimum value is not exceeded, the score obtained in the evaluation corresponding to the activities of work, cases or exercises and attendance and participation in classroom and/or virtual activities will not count towards the final grade of the course. In this case, the final grade of the course will coincide with the exam grade. The result of the exam will account for 40% of the total weight of the evaluation. This exam will be used to assess the acquisition of competences CB2, CEQ2 and CEQ3. c) Aspects related to the completion of assignments, cases or exercises. This section will account for 50 % of the final grade of the course, acquiring the competences CB2, CB4, CB5, CEQ2 and CEQ3. c1) The delivery and defence of problems and/or assignments will account for 30 % of the grade in this section. The student must develop and deliver two problems/works, one individual and one in group. c2) In the laboratory practicals, the attendance, delivery and assessment of the notebook will be considered. In order to pass this section, attendance and individual delivery of the practical workbook is compulsory. The grade for the laboratory practicals constitutes 70% of the grade corresponding to part c), although with the exception that in order to pass the subject it is compulsory to obtain 4 out of 10 in the laboratory practicals. It will not be kept for a second year. As a general rule, the structure of the work, cases or exercises, the quality of the documentation, originality, spelling and presentation will be analysed. In the event that the student chooses the 'single exam' assessment procedure, the official exam will account for 60% of the final grade (the competences (CB2, CB5, CB4, CEQ2 and CEQ3) will be assessed) and the remaining 40% may be obtained through the presentation of a practical project based on the course syllabus and agreed with the teacher. The work must be defended orally, if possible on the same day as the official exam. The content of the work together with the presentation to be used in the oral presentation must be sent to the teacher at least ten days before the date of the official exam. The duration of the presentation should be between 15 and 20 minutes. After the oral presentation, the teacher will ask questions on the topic, both from the written work and from the oral presentation.

6. BOOKLIST
MAIN BOOKLIST:
  • Basic principles and calculations in chemical engineering [electronic resource] . Edition: 8th ed.. Author: Himmelblau, David M. (David Mautner), 1923-2011.. Publisher: Prentice Hall  (Library)

8. VIRTUAL / CLASSROOM TEACHING SCENARIO

In the global assessment system for the multimodal scenario, the percentages assigned to the different aspects considered in the assessment of the subject coincide completely with those contemplated in the assessment system of the face-to-face modality.

In relation to the rest of the assessable aspects, the specifications that appear in the detailed information on the Assessment System of the face-to-face teaching modality are maintained.

In the case of assessment by the single exam system, the official exam will account for 50% of the final grade (CB2, CB5, CEQ2 and CEQ3) and the remaining 50% may be obtained through the presentation of a practical project based on the course syllabus and agreed with the teacher. The percentages assigned to the qualification of the work are: 70 % evaluation of the content, presentation of the work, spelling, structure, etc., and 30 % of the defence. Finally, it should be noted that in order to pass the course the student must obtain at least a 4 out of 10 in the official exam grade.

The work must be defended online via videoconference, if possible on the same day as the official exam. The content of the work together with the presentation to be used in the online presentation must be sent to the teacher at least ten days before the date of the official exam. The duration of the presentation should be between 15 and 20 minutes. After the presentation, the teacher will ask questions about the topic, both the written work and the presentation. The percentages assigned to the qualification of the work are: 70 % evaluation of the content, presentation of the work, spelling, structure, etc., and 30 % of the defence.
