Chapter 1: Data formats in Earth and Space Sciences

  • Reading and writing files

Chapter 2: Geographic data sources

  • Reference web pages for download
  • Obtaining data from capture devices
  • Preparation of data for processing

Chapter 3: Processing of satellite images or UAVs

  • Filtering, correction and rectification of images

Chapter 4: Visualization of data in 2D and 3D

  • Generation of 2D maps
  • Generation of 3D models
  • Graph generation

Chapter 5: Applications for analysis and simulation

  • Create 2D and 3D animations

Practical content:

Practical Unit 1: Handling of basic data types and programming in Matlab.

Practical Unit 2: Image processing in Matlab.

Practical Unit 3: Generation of 3D models.

Practical Unit 4: Development of a Matlab project.

4. COURSE DESCRIPTION AND TEACHING METHODOLOGY

Students will work in computer labs, explaining concepts and putting them in practice using the MATLAB programming environment.

At the end of the semester, students must have developed a project in which they will have put into practice what they have learned

5. ASSESSMENT METHODOLOGY

  • Attendance will be controlled by signature sheets.
  • Class participation will be controlled through the teacher's observations and notes.
  • The theoretical exam may contain short-answer or development questions and test questions.
  • The practices will be evaluated by reviewing the project developed in MATLAB. The student will be required to defend their work.

The multimodal or mixed scenario is 100% face-to-face due to the number of enrolled students. Therefore, the methodology, evaluation and resources indicated in the previous sections of the guide are applied.

Ordinary and extraordinary convocatories.

  • Exam about the theoretical and practical concepts of the subject (100% face-to-face). Percentage 30%

RESOURCES

The basic resources of classroom teaching and laboratories will be: computer, projector, blackboard, etc. Matlab software will be used in the practical classes. The UJA virtual teaching platform (repository of teaching material for theory and practices, forums, homework delivery, etc.), Google's electronic resources for online tutoring (Meet, Forms, Jamboard, ...) and resources will be used. electronic bibliographies of the UJA that do not require the physical presence in the library.

Purpose: In accordance with the Universities Law and other national and regional regulations in force, carrying out exams and assessment tests corresponding to the courses students are registered in. In order to avoid frauds while sitting the exam, the exam will be answered using a videoconference system, being able the academic staff of the University of Jaén to compare and contrast the image of the person who is answering the exam with the student's photographic files. Likewise, in order to provide the exam with evidential content for revisions or claims, in accordance with current regulation frameworks, the exam will be recorded and stored.

Legitimacy: compliance with legal obligations (Universities Law) and other national and regional regulations currently in force.

Addressees: service providers who are the owners of the platforms where the exams are carried out and with whom the University of Jaén has signed the corresponding data access contracts.

Storage periods: those established in current in force regulations. In the specific case of exam videoconference recordings, not before the examination records and transcripts are closed or the exam can still be reviewed or challenged.

Rights: you can exercise your right of access, amendment, cancellation, opposition, suppression, limitation and portability by sending a letter to the postal or electronic address indicated above. In the event that you consider that your rights have been violated, you may submit a complaint to the Andalusian Council for Transparency and Data Protection www.ctpdandalucia.es
