3. CONTENT DESCRIPTION

The course deals with the biochemical processes for first and second generation bioethanol production. Processes using raw materials like sugarbeet, sugarcane or starchy materials are studied. In addition, advanced processes for bioethanol production from residual biomass are presented.

Next, the production of biodiesel  from different raw materials as well as the formation of by-products and their possible applications are studied.

Finally, the use of these liquid biofuels in automotive is exposed. The environmental advantages associated with their use are analyzed and the sustainability criteria are presented.
Finally, the current situation of the national and international biofuels market is addressed.

 

4. COURSE DESCRIPTION AND TEACHING METHODOLOGY

Lectures and seminars: Exposure of theoretical content and applied examples (Spanish language)

Laboratory sessions: Bioethanol and biodiesel processes  (Spanish language)

Other activities: Oral presentations by the students (They could be in English language for foreigner students). They will be focused on advanced technologies for second-generation biofuel production.

Students with special educational needs should contact the Student Attention Service (Servicio de Atención y Ayudas al Estudiante) in order to receive the appropriate academic support

5. ASSESSMENT METHODOLOGY

A minimal score of 4 in the exam is required to pass the course. Only if a score above 4 in the exam is obtained, the score obtained in the practical activities will be considered.

The attendance to practical activities and the attitude and interest of the students will be considered.

In addition, a report of practical sessions will be required (Competences:  CB6, CB9, CG02, CG07, CT02 y CT04).

7. VIRTUAL / CLASSROOM TEACHING SCENARIO

The teaching methodology will be that indicated in the original academic guide, although only 50% of the students will attend classes face-to-face and 50% by video conference. Attendance will be on a rotating basis.*

(*) The Center will be able to establish a different rotating attendance depending on the number of students and the capacity of the classroom/laboratory according to the sanitary measures.

The evaluation system will be the one indicated in the original academic guide The exam will be in person or replaced by an online test (Google Form) with the same weight, depending of the health recommendations. The oral presentation of the project will be online (Google Meet).

8. VIRTUAL TEACHING SCENARIO

TEACHING METHODOLOGY

The online videoconference system Google Meet substitute face-to-face interaction in the same official week, days and times established in the official timetables.

ASSESSMENT SYSTEM

A continuous assessment of the students will be carried out throughout the course by means of the delivery of activities, both of the theoretical and practical contents, which will represent 50% of the final mark. A final synchronous online test will also be carried out through Google Forms, which will represent 50% of the final grade.

RESOURCES AND FACILITIES

Analysis of practical cases and oral presentations will be online with Google Meet.

The adaptation to online teaching implies the use of synchronous and asynchronous activities with the support offered at the Intranet site -Docencia Virtual- at Universidad de Jaén and videoconferences by Hangout Meet.

Purpose: In accordance with the Universities Law and other national and regional regulations in force, carrying out exams and assessment tests corresponding to the courses students are registered in. In order to avoid frauds while sitting the exam, the exam will be answered using a videoconference system, being able the academic staff of the University of Jaén to compare and contrast the image of the person who is answering the exam with the student's photographic files. Likewise, in order to provide the exam with evidential content for revisions or claims, in accordance with current regulation frameworks, the exam will be recorded and stored.

Legitimacy: compliance with legal obligations (Universities Law) and other national and regional regulations currently in force.

Addressees: service providers who are the owners of the platforms where the exams are carried out and with whom the University of Jaén has signed the corresponding data access contracts.

Storage periods: those established in current in force regulations. In the specific case of exam videoconference recordings, not before the examination records and transcripts are closed or the exam can still be reviewed or challenged.

Rights: you can exercise your right of access, amendment, cancellation, opposition, suppression, limitation and portability by sending a letter to the postal or electronic address indicated above. In the event that you consider that your rights have been violated, you may submit a complaint to the Andalusian Council for Transparency and Data Protection www.ctpdandalucia.es
