The contents of this subject are related to the following UN Sustainable Development Goals, foreseen in the 2030 agenda.
SDG 4: Quality education, specifically, promote global education for sustainable development (4.7).
SDG 8: Promote inclusive and sustainable economic growth, employment and decent work for all. Specifically, improving efficient and respectful production and consumption (8.4) and promoting a safe and risk-free work environment for all workers (8.8).
SDG 9: Build resilient infrastructure, promote sustainable industrialization and foster innovation. Specifically, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization (9.2) and reconvert industries to be sustainable (9.4).
SDG 12: Responsible production and consumption, referring to achieving sustainable management and efficient use of natural resources (12.2), management of waste and chemical products (12.5), ensuring education for sustainable development (12.8) and strengthening of science and technology for sustainability (12.A).
- Lectures: Exposition of theoretical contents of the subject. They will be taught in the classroom with the help of ICT and support of virtual teaching platform of the University of Jaen. 20 h
- Classes in practice groups: preparation, discussion and presentation of the work done by students, individually or in small groups. Work will focus on different aspects of energy use of biomass, including bibliographical or practical studies on applicable technologies. 8 h
- Conferences. Two conferences will be held by professionals with extensive experience in th euse of biomass. 4 h
- Technical visits. Visit to an industrial facility in the surrounding area related to the use of biomass. 4 h
- Specialized Tutorials: will orient the student about the literature needed for the work to be prepared and present in class. Doubts about the theoretical and practical contents of the subject will also clarified. 2 h
Students with special educational needs should contact the Student Attention Service (Servicio de Atención y Ayudas al Estudiante) in order to receive the appropriate academic support
Student assessment will be done through three instruments as
follows:
- Attendance and participation in training activities (10%):
an attendance control for class sessions and complementary
activities and external visits will be made.
- Final exam on theoretical and practical content (50%).
Examination of the theoretical and practical aspects
developed in the course. Clarity, mastery of concepts and
realization will be assessed. This element of evaluation is
especially oriented to basic skills, CB6, CB7, CB10 and CB11 as
well as CE16 and CE17 specific. It will be necessary to obtain at
least 4 points out of 10 for the remaining evaluation elements to
be valued.
- Presentation of works (40%). This element of the evaluation
consists of two sections:
Group work (20%). the written submission, preferably in
electronic format, will measure a work on certain aspects of
the energy use of biomass which will have been assigned at
the beginning of the course. Important elements for the
assessment will be the organization of information, clarity of
presentation, originality and own contributions and
relevance to the objectives of the work.
Individual presentations (20%). Special attention will
be paid to the organization of information, including
the adaptation to the assigned time, clarity of presentation
and answers to questions from the audience. The
main competencies to which this assessment element addresses
are EC7 EC8, CE13, CE16 and CE17.
The last two
assessment items refer to the learning outcomes listed
above.
- Biorefineries - industrial processes and products: status quo and future directions. Edition: -. Author: -. Publisher: Weinheim : Wiley-VCH, 2010 (Library)
- Introduction to chemicals from biomass. Edition: -. Author: -. Publisher: Chichester, U.K. : Wiley, 2009 (Library)
