Subject 12. Ecological consequences of land use changes and removing/substituting species (biodiversity crisis, biological invasions, others).
Practical contents
- Field work. Forest structure characterization and sampling for lab analyses
- Four laboratory practical sessions and one analysis session. i, experimental set up and application ofexperimental treatments; ii, analysis of respiration rates; iii and iv, analysis of inorganic N and P content; v, analysis of results.
Seminar contents
- Seminar in class for the experimental designs in the field and the lab
- Two seminars in computer room to analyze field data
- Seminar in the lab for the dendrochronological analysis
- Final saminar in a classroom for the presentation of results
---------------------------------------------------------------
The contents of this subject are connected to the following Sustainable Development Goals:
SDG-3 (Good health and well-being), SDG-4 (Quality education), SDG-6 (Clean water and sanitation), SDG-7 (Affordable and clean energy), SDG-13 (Climate Action), SDG-14 (Life below water) and SDG-15 (Life on land).
This subject is divided in two parts. A theoretical one, including big group classes and seminars, and a practical part, in which samples taken in a field work will be used for further laboratory and computer analysis. In the first seminar, the practical section will be explained to the students (methodology, execution, evaluation). In the last seminar the results of the practical parts of the subject will be explained by the alumns by means of an oral presentation. The rest of the seminars will serve as support for analysing data and samples obtained in the field work
Students with special educational needs should contact the Student Attention Service (Servicio de Atención y Ayudas al Estudiante) in order to receive the appropriate academic support
The students will be evaluated attending to the following criteria:
1. Written exam for the theoretical part of the subject (75% of the total): CB-3, CB-4, CB-5, CT-1, CE-2, CE-3, CE-4, CE-33, CE-39
2. Attendance and skills acquiered during the practical sessions, including a practical exam (5% of the total): CT-1, CE-2, CE-3, CE-4, CE-14, CE-33, CE-39
3. Oral presentation of a results report from the practical activities (20% of the total): CT-1, CE-2, CE-4, CE-14, CE-33, CE-39
If the oral presentation and the report are not performed, the practical part will be evaluated by means of an exam in the laboratory/computer room (25% of the total)
The students have to overcome both, the theoretical and practical sections of the subject independently, being the final rating calculated once a minimum score of 4.5 over 10 is reached for both parts.

1. Methodology and activities
According to the recommendations of the Faculty of Experimental Sciences, 100% of the big group classes will be given online (syncronous 1-h online classes), although they could be given face to face if the number of students is under the capacity limits of the rooms or if changes in sanitry recommedations allow it)
Seminars in theoretical rooms will be given with the same strategy as the big group classes. Seminars and practical classes in computer room will be given face to face if it is allowed by the capacity of the rooms. If not, online sessions will be given. Laboratory practical classes will be given face to face if it is allowed the capacity of the laboratory. If not, 50% of the students will receive a face to face session, while online multimedia material will be offered to the rest of the students.
Individual or small group tutorships will be perfomed via e-mail or via videconference.
2. Evaluation
Continuous evaluation with i, 50% online activities developed by the students, and ii, online syncronous written exam (short questions), by means of the available online tools (https://www.ujaen.es/herramientas-para-la-docencia-y-la-evaluacion-virtual).

3. Resources
The online resources available at the University fo Jaénwill be used for teaching and evaluating in the mixed scenario. Electronic bibliographic resources available at the Library of the University of Jaén will be used, as well.
1. Methodology
100% of the big group classes will be given online (1h syncronous online sessions). Seminars and practical sessions that are developed in computer room in the mixed scenario will be given online (2h syncronous online sessions) by means of videoconference. Seminars and practical sessions that are developed face to face in the mixed scenario are substituted by syncronous online activities (2h sessions) that allow the students to acquire the planned competences (e.g., model simulation for competition or predator-prey interactions, human ecology and landscape ecology).
Individual or small group tutorships will be perfomed via e-mail or via videconference.
2. Evaluation
