3. CONTENT DESCRIPTION

The Master Thesis is an original work performed individually and that must be presented and defended before an evaluation panel convened for that purpose. The work must be done within the field of the specific technologies of Telecommunication Engineering, and it must develop and integrate the main competencies and skills acquired during the master teaching.

All the master thesis work and associated documents must follow the recommendations and regulations of the University of Jaen. Evaluation criteria of Master's Thesis (MT)

General aspects:

  • It will be positively assessed that the MT has been proposed by the student.
  • Originality and complexity of the proposed work.
  • Correspondence between the scope and goals in the original MT proposal (approved by the Commission) and the obtained results.
  • Clarity in the establishment of objectives, antecedents, justification and methodology.
  • Adequacy of the materials, methods, procedures and criteria used.
  • Appropriateness of the conclusions to the obtained results.
  • Use of adequate and updated bibliography.


Formal aspects:

  • Adequacy to the criteria for writing the MT.
  • Quality of the writing and technical vocabulary used.
  • Quality in the structure of the MT.
  • Quality in the presentation of the bibliography (citations and references).

Aspects related to the oral presentation and defense:

  • Degree of synthesis and adequacy of the presentation structure.
  • Clarity in the presentation of the work. The appropriate vocabulary is used in each circumstance and proper use of technical vocabulary is made when necessary.
  • Quality of the support material used.
  • Degree of maturity and knowledge demonstrated in the post-presentation discussion.

The verification by the evaluation panel of plagiarism in the submitted MT will imply the failing grade in the subject.

For guidance purposes, it is recommended that the evaluation panel assigns the following percentages of the overall rating to the criteria listed above:

  • General aspects of the MT: 65%.
  • Formal aspects of the MT: 15%.
  • Aspects related to the oral presentation and defense of the MT: 20%.

7. VIRTUAL / CLASSROOM TEACHING SCENARIO

1. COURSE DESCRIPTION AND TEACHING METHODOLOGY

Supervisors may propose an alternative programming, adapted to the theoretical / bibliographic or other modality, that allows its telematic realization in those Master thesis (MT) initially planned as experimental within the University facilities or external entities, or those that involve activities field. This alternative planning will cover situations arising during the 2021-22 academic year, going from the face-to-face or mixed scenario to another non-face-to-face scenario, in which it is not possible to carry out the MT in person. In this way, the acquisition of the specific skills of the subject will be guaranteed regardless of the evolution of the pandemic.

Supervisors will be able to carry out the tutor guidance of the students in a virtual way.

2. ASSESSMENT METHODOLOGY

In all scenarios, the defense of MT will be carried out in accordance with the regulations approved in each center and respecting at all times the security measures set by the health authorities.

The defense of MT will be carried out in virtual format.

In general, the planned dates of MT defense specified in the different calls by each responsible Center will be maintained.

The students will deliver their MT and the corresponding documentation in electronic format, by sending them electronically according to the means specified by each Center. The delivery of any type of documentation on physical support will not be required.

Defense of the MT:

The defense of the MT will be carried out on the date and time determined, in accordance with the provisions of the Center's MT Regulations.

  3. RESOURCES

The guidelines set out in the academic criteria for the adaptation of teaching during the academic year 2020-21 will be taken into account in relation to the pandemic caused by covid-19, approved by the Governing Council in its extraordinary session nº17 of 2 of July 2020. As well as all those guidelines that may be set during the academic year 2021-22.

8. VIRTUAL TEACHING SCENARIO

1. COURSE DESCRIPTION AND TEACHING METHODOLOGY

 2. ASSESSMENT METHODOLOGY

If the external practices of the students have had to be delayed due to the impossibility of adapting to the non-face-to-face modality during the scheduled dates, the student will be allowed to present the MT even without having passed the practices, with the transitory changes in the regulations academic that this requires.

In all scenarios, the defense of MT will be carried out in accordance with the regulations approved in each center and respecting at all times the security measures set by the health authorities.

Master Thesis Defense:

It is allowed a non presential master thesis Defense in accordance with the resolution of the Rectorate of the University of Jaén of March 30, 2020, which exceptionally authorizes the telematic execution of all the procedures related to the defense of final degree works at the University of Jaén. A protocol for exposure and defense in person of MT was established to guarantee that all the students who plan to do so in the period of suspension of the in-person defenses of MT can complete their studies. Said protocol will be in force as long as the exceptional measures that prevent the realization of the defense act of the MT in person are maintained and consists of:

  • In general, the planned defense dates of MT specified in the different calls by the Center will be maintained.
  • The students will deliver their MT and the corresponding documentation in electronic format, by sending them electronically.

With regard to the defense of the MT, the following items will be taken into account:

  1. The assessment of the MT will be made on the date proposed, in accordance with the provisions of the Regulations of the MT.
  2. The assessment will be carried out in person, using audiovisual media.
  3. The option of recording the MT presentation could be given to be sent in advance to the evaluation panel who will examine and evaluate said presentation. However, the student must compulsorily perform synchronous defense of their work.
  4. In the assessment, all members of the evaluation panel are connected using Internet.
  5. The student must be identified using an ID card, which will be verified.
  6. All participants will follow the provisions of the General Data Protection Regulation - Regulation (EU) 2016/679, of April 27, Organic Law 3/2018, of December 5, on the Protection of Personal Data and guarantee of digital rights and other applicable regulations.
  7. The assessment must contemplate a session for exposition and questions, as well as a deliberation period.
  8. The secretary of the evaluation panel will draw up the minutes of the session. All documentation corresponding to the MT assessment must be signed by digital signature. If the evaluation panel does not have a digital signature, they must expressly agree with each of the agreements adopted by email addressed to the secretary, who must contribute these documents to the file.

DATA PROTECTION CLAUSE (on line exams)

Purpose: In accordance with the Universities Law and other national and regional regulations in force, carrying out exams and assessment tests corresponding to the courses students are registered in. In order to avoid frauds while sitting the exam, the exam will be answered using a videoconference system, being able the academic staff of the University of Jaén to compare and contrast the image of the person who is answering the exam with the student's photographic files. Likewise, in order to provide the exam with evidential content for revisions or claims, in accordance with current regulation frameworks, the exam will be recorded and stored.

Legitimacy: compliance with legal obligations (Universities Law) and other national and regional regulations currently in force.

Addressees: service providers who are the owners of the platforms where the exams are carried out and with whom the University of Jaén has signed the corresponding data access contracts.

Storage periods: those established in current in force regulations. In the specific case of exam videoconference recordings, not before the examination records and transcripts are closed or the exam can still be reviewed or challenged.

Rights: you can exercise your right of access, amendment, cancellation, opposition, suppression, limitation and portability by sending a letter to the postal or electronic address indicated above. In the event that you consider that your rights have been violated, you may submit a complaint to the Andalusian Council for Transparency and Data Protection www.ctpdandalucia.es
