4. COURSE DESCRIPTION AND TEACHING METHODOLOGY

During the classroom hours of theory, the student will be introduced to the contents of the course. For this purpose, the program corresponding to each subject will be previously handed to the student so that he/she can follow the development of the course. During the exposition, power point presentations will be used, where tables and figures corresponding to the theoretical contents of each topic will be shown. At the end of each topic, there will be a brief summary of what has been studied in it, and where possible, new objectives will be proposed that will allow connecting with the previous contents already studied and the following ones, in this way the student will be able to interrelate all the contents of the course.
During the theory classes and expository cases, the student's participation will be promoted, trying to create a relaxed atmosphere and raising questions by the professor so that the student can reason the answer in class or consult the bibliography outside the classroom hours. Also, it will propose that the student exposes in class the resolution of some practical case raised, provoking the debate on the mechanism used and the result obtained on having solved the problem presented in the different cases.
It will be proposed the realization of work by the student related to the contents of the course, such as developing a section of those studied in class, or even develop a topic of extension of the subject. This will allow the student to develop skills in obtaining information, both from primary and secondary sources, including obtaining information on-line.
The laboratory practices of Water Chemistry allow a contact with the observation and experimentation techniques used in this discipline to obtain information. Thus, they familiarize the student with the realization of measurements, handling of equipment (set-up, calibration, etc.) and handling and presentation of experimental data. In addition, the laboratory practices are a perfect complement to assimilate the laws and fundamental concepts in water chemistry.
Due to the limited time allocated to the realization of the practices and to favor the understanding of the material and instrumentation to be used, it is advisable the elaboration of a practice notebook that speeds up the process of realization of the same. The practice notebook has a predefined script for each practice, which should consist of the following points:
1.-Introduction. The student is given the theoretical background in which the practice is framed so that with its reading the context of the same one becomes clear.
2.-Objective. It is expressed in this section the aim or aims pursued with the realization of the practice.
3.-Material and reagents. A breakdown is made of the instrumentation to be used and the reagents and solutions to be prepared so that the student, after reading it, can already make the necessary calculations before the practical session.
Operative method. The procedure to be followed step by step for the realization of the practice and obtaining the corresponding results is clearly explained.
5.-Expression of results. In this section the results that the student must present so that the practice can be considered well solved are listed. This section can be done at home or in the laboratory if there is enough time.

5. ASSESSMENT METHODOLOGY

Written exam, consisting of questions on the theory and cases presented in class.
The purpose of this test is to assess whether the basic competences reflected in the degree report (CB1-CB5) have been achieved.
Personal work developed during the course. The professor will evaluate the work done by the student solving the activities assigned to him/her, as well as his/her active participation in class.
Evaluation of the laboratory work through the follow-up in the realization of the practices, as well as in the evaluation of the notebook of practices that each student must present.
The evaluation of the personal work and the laboratory work will allow to know if the general and transversal competences (CG5, CC2,...) that deal with the Capacity for the design and management of procedures, as well as the theoretical and practical knowledge of the chemical and physical properties of the systems of control and quality in hydraulic installations have been achieved.

7. VIRTUAL / CLASSROOM TEACHING SCENARIO

1.-TEACHING METHODOLOGY AND TRAINING ACTIVITIES:
For the development of the theory classes as well as the laboratory practices, multimodal or mixed teaching will be used.
According to the last years the courses have consisted of groups of students below the limited capacity in the classroom and laboratory of Chemistry L-041 (maximum capacity of 16 students). These data on maximum allowed capacity have been supplied by the occupational risk prevention service.
However, if the number of students enrolled in the 2021-2022 academic year were to exceed the permitted capacity, the guide would be modified in the appropriate sense to comply with the corresponding adaptation criteria.
Thus, the following activities are proposed:
Activity 1.1.-Theoretical sessions on the contents of the program. Format: 100% attendance. There will be 30 sessions of participative lectures, of one hour of duration each one, carried out in the corresponding classroom.
Activity 1.2.- Practical sessions in specialized laboratories. Format: 100% attendance. Eight practical sessions of two hours each will be developed in the corresponding laboratories.
Activity 1.3.- Seminar sessions on laboratory practices. Format: 100 % attendance. They will consist of 3 face-to-face sessions of two hours of duration each one, to be developed in the corresponding laboratory.
Activity 1.4.-Visits to companies. Format: 100 % attendance. They will consist of 2 presential visits of four hours of duration each one, to develop in companies related to the control and treatment of water of the province of Jaén.
Activity 1.5.-Tutorials.
In format: face-to-face and online. Some tutorials will be face-to-face and others online (synchronous and asynchronous).
2.-EVALUATION SYSTEM.
2.1.- Ordinary call.
It will be carried out by means of continuous evaluation in face-to-face format using the following tests:
Delivery and correction of proposed cases on the subject (30 %), delivery-exhibition of works (15 %), delivery-exhibition of seminars (15 %), attendance to classes and individualized questions during the development of the same (10 %) and delivery-correction of the laboratory practice notebook (30 %).
2.2.-Extraordinary exam.
Written exam in classroom format. A part corresponding to theory questions about the syllabus and laboratory practices (65 %) and another part corresponding to the cases proposed during the course (35 %).
3.-CURSES.
The Theory and Problems classes will be developed using different materials such as documents in different formats (Word, Power Point, pdf, videos, etc.).
Additionally, computer resources provided by the University of Jaén (Virtual Teaching Platform, Videoconference through Google Meet, other Google applications: Docs, Slides, Calendar, Drive) will be used in order to encourage student participation, as well as electronic bibliographic resources available in the library of the University of Jaén.
The laboratory classes have been developed in person in the laboratory and a laboratory practice notebook must be elaborated and delivered for its corresponding evaluation.
Privacy clause:
Where appropriate, the teaching staff involved in the teaching of this subject reserves the right not to give consent for the capture, publication, retransmission or reproduction of their speech, image, voice and professorial explanations, in the exercise of their teaching duties, within the scope of the University of Jaén.

 

8. VIRTUAL TEACHING SCENARIO

1.-TEACHING METHODOLOGY AND TRAINING ACTIVITIES:
For the development of the theory classes as well as the laboratory practices, online teaching will be used.
Activity 1.1.- 7 practical sessions in specialized laboratories. Format: non face-to-face. The 8 practical sessions will be replaced by online training activities: watching videos, performing the corresponding calculations, preparing the graphs and analyzing the results obtained. There will be 8 practical sessions of 2 hours each.
Activity 1.2.-Theoretical sessions on the contents of the program. In non-attendance format. There will be 30 sessions of participative master classes, of one hour duration each, carried out by videoconference.
Activity 1.3.-Sessions of resolution of proposed cases. In a non face-to-face format, they will consist of 14 synchronous online sessions, each lasting one hour.
Activity 1.4.-Tutorials.
In non face-to-face format, all the online tutoring sessions will be carried out (synchronous and asynchronous).
2.-EVALUATION SYSTEM.
2.1.- Ordinary call.
It will be carried out by means of continuous evaluation using the following tests:
Delivery and correction of all the proposed cases of the course (30 %), delivery-exhibition of works (15 %), delivery-exhibition of seminars (15 %), attendance to classes and individualized questions during the development of the same (10 %) and delivery-correction of the laboratory practice notebook (30 %).
2.2.-Extraordinary exam.
On-line exam. Questions on the theory syllabus (35%), the cases proposed in class (35%) and laboratory practices (30 %).
3.- RESOURCES.
The computer resources provided by the University of Jaén will be used (Virtual Teaching Platform, Videoconference through Google Meet, other applications of the Google environment: Docs, Slides, Calendar, Drive) in order to encourage student participation, as well as electronic bibliographic resources available in the library of the University of Jaén.


The online classes of Theory and Problems will be developed using the google meet platform and as support different documents in different formats (Word, Power Point, pdf, videos, etc.).
The laboratory classes have been developed through a virtual laboratory for which different resources have been developed (new practice notebook adapted to online teaching, Word files, power point, pdf, videos, etc) for the monitoring and development of each of the practices raised in the subject.

Purpose: In accordance with the Universities Law and other national and regional regulations in force, carrying out exams and assessment tests corresponding to the courses students are registered in.
