4. COURSE DESCRIPTION AND TEACHING METHODOLOGY

The activities will include theoretical lectures where database exercises will be discussed and resolved from a requirements document.

Practical activities will include the implementation of arelational database (Oracle DBMS) and the design and implementationof queries over the database.

The tutorial classes include debate about the key concepts ofthe subject and the resolution of advanced exercises.

The group and individual tutorials as established by the regulations are NOT PRESENTIAL. Therefore, the students themselves  have to dedicate these hours to the resolution of problems and doubts.

Students with special educational needs should contact the Student Attention Service (Servicio de Atención y Ayudas al Estudiante) in order to receive the appropriate academic support

5. ASSESSMENT METHODOLOGY

According to the provisions of Article 13 of the Regulations on the Academic and Evaluation Regime of the students of the University of Jaén, the evaluation of the subject will be global.

Competences CB2R, CB3R, CB5R, CC12R will be evaluated through aspects S1, S2 and S4. Competence CT6 will be assessed through aspect S1.

The learning outcomes through aspects S1, S2 and S4.

In order to pass the course, it will be necessary to obtain a score of 5.0 points (of a maximum of 10) after adding up the marks with the weights of each one of the following concepts:

  • (S1) 5 % of the course grade requires the realization of a set of exercises and assumptions during the classes period.
  • (S2) 60 % of the course grade requires the accomplishment of a theory exam. A minimum score required in this part.
  • (S4) 35 % of the course grade is corresponded to the practical part of the course. There is not a minimum score required in this part.

The theoretical part of the course (S2) is composed:

  • Theory exam (S2): It corresponds to 60% of the overall grade of the course in the S2 concept. It is required to pass this exam with a minimum of 30% of the overall grade (a 5 out of 10 on the exam) to be able to pass the course. If this minimum is not obtained the student will get only the mark of the exam and the other parts of the course will not be added. The exam will be held at all official convocations, both ordinary and extraordinary. The examination mark will not be kept from one convocation to another.

The practical part of the course (S4) consists of:

  • Practical scripts: 80% of the practical classes of the course must be attended and all the scripts must be solved and uploaded in time during the class period. If for some justified reason, the student is unable to attend to the practical classes, you will have to communicate this at the beginning of the term to the teacher responsible for the group, in order to find a solution that satisfies both parties. The qualification will be SUITABLE - NOT SUITABLE in this part of the course.
  • Database Project. The mark of the practical part (S4) will be that of the Database Project if the practice scripts are qualified as SUITABLE. If the scripts are NOT SUITABLE, the grade in the practical part S4 will be 0.0.

Other considerations:

  • All the marks got by the student during the class period, that is, marks related with concepts S1 and S4, will be maintained for the ordinary and extraordinary call of the same course.
  • The copy/plagiarism in exams, written tests, works or projects will carry the mark of 0.0 in the course.
  • During the class period, several mid-term exams could be proposed.
  • The tests and activities of both the theoretical and practical part allow the
evaluation of all the competences and result learning objectives included in sections 6 and 7 of this course guide .
  • Objects that will NOT be needed for the test (books, mobile phones, etc.) will
be will be deposited in the place indicated by the teachers.
  • The use or possession of electronic devices, mobile phones (switched on or off) will not be allowed, books, notes, particular instruments or other objects other than those specified by the teachers.
