4. COURSE DESCRIPTION AND TEACHING METHODOLOGY

Teaching sessions are structure in theoretical and practical sessions:

  • In the theoretical sessions, the masterclass will be used to introduce the essential concepts with the support of different materials edited for that purpose (notes, sides and practical examples obtained from the manuals indicated in the bibliography).
  • The practical sessions are divided in:
    • Sessions where proposed exercises related to the theoretical contents will be solved on the board by students and exposed in class to the rest of the students for further study.
  • Computer lab sessions: the students will be trained to use adequate statistical software.

In addition, it is essential for students to work independently, that is, an individualized study of the contents of the subject.

Students with special educational needs should contact the Student Attention Service (Servicio de Atención y Ayudas al Estudiante) in order to receive the appropriate academic support

5. ASSESSMENT METHODOLOGY

Ordinary and extraordinary calls

  • In accordance with article 13 of the Regulations of Academic Regime and Student Assessment of the University of Jaén, the evaluation of the subject will be global.
  • Likewise, in accordance with art. 18 of the aforementioned Regulations, an exam session will be considered to have been completed when the assessment tests in which the student has participated together account for more than 30% of the final grade for the subject.
  • For the assesment of theory, a test will be held on the official dates, which will account for 80% of the final mark. This test will validate the acquisition of competences E8, E9, G27 and G3 and results R1, R2 and R4. Optionally, a control of student learning may be carried out within the framework of continuous assessment.
  • For the assessment of the practical part, a student learning control will be carried out within the framework of continuous assessment, which will account for 20% of the final grade. This will make it possible to check the level of acquisition of competences E11, E8, E9, G14, G3, G27 and G8 and results R4 and R3.
  • The mark obtained in the practical part during the teaching period may be kept for the official exams of the same course.
  • The overall grade will correspond to the weighted score of the different aspects and activities that make up the assessment system. It should be taken into account that, in order to pass the subject, a minimum mark of 5 out of 10 must be obtained.
  • For the final assessment of the students' knowledge, all the work carried out throughout the course will be studied as thoroughly as possible. This section may be used to qualify the final grade as long as it exceeds 4.5 and without exceeding the maximum mark.

7. VIRTUAL / CLASSROOM TEACHING SCENARIO

1) Teaching methodology and training activities.

All activities will be 100% face-to-face or 50% face-to-face (with group rotation and videoconference broadcast to the rest of the group), depending on the number of students enrolling in the subject and the capacity of the classroom. If the number of students exceeds the capacity of the classroom or it does not have the technical systems required for broadcasting, all the students will take online lessons.

Training activities

A1.-Expository classes: master
classes, theory exposition and
examples

100%-50% face-to-face (rotation if needed),
provided that the classroom
has the technical system
required for broadcasting.

45 sessions in the classroom (master classes, theory exposition and example
resolution), that will be
broadcast by videoconference
to the rest of the
group. Periodical rotation of
students.

A3.Practical classes: classes in computer lab

100%-50% face-to-face (rotation if needed),
provided that the classroom
has the technical system
required for broadcasting

8 practical sessions in
computer lab, with periodical
rotation of students and
broadcasting to the rest
of the group. If the
classroom did not have
the required broadcasting
technical system, these
sessions would be substituted
by online videoconferences
for all students.

A2. Practical classes: practical
problems and exercises

100%-50% face-to-face (rotation if needed),
provided that the classroom
has the technical system
required for broadcasting.

7 sessions (50% small
groups, broadcasting and
student rotation), for the
resolution of problems
and exercises autonomously
by the students. If the
classroom did not have
the required broadcasting
technical system, these
sessions would be substituted
by online videoconferences
for all students.

Tutorial

Online

Tutorial sessions will be held
online by any of the available communication channels (videoconference with Google Meet, forum, chat or email), preferably at the scheduled time indicated in this syllabus or exceptionally at a different time, upon request.

Due to the continuous nature of the computer tests, their mark may be kept for the Extraordinary Calls of this academic year. Nonetheless, those students who, for some justified reason, have not completed all the  continuous assessment activities can take a single global exam in which both the acquisition of knowledge and  the ability to apply it to practical situations will be assessed.
A student will be marked as "No presentado" (No show) if they do not take more the final exam.

If the exam or some of the assessment tests could not be carried out face-to-face, they will be carried out  online (see the non-attendance scenario and the data protection clause included in this syllabus).

3) Resources
The following resources will be used:
- Teaching classroom
- Computer lab
- Email
- Intranet site.
- Virtual whiteboard.
- Google Meet tool
- Google Forms tool
- Virtual PC service provided by the University of Jaén.

8. VIRTUAL TEACHING SCENARIO

To guarantee the reliability of this assessment system, the following measures will be taken:

If the number of students allows it, the continuous assessment tests on theoretical content may be carried out orally and individually.

  • The exam will be divided into different parts and the response time of each one will be limited.
  • The exam will be aimed at evaluating the ability to understand the contents, the correct application of techniques and the interpretation of solutions.
  • While taking the continuous assessment tests and the exam, the students must be connected to a  Google Meet session, keeping the microphone and camera both open.
  • The online evaluation tests may be recorded, in order to provide them with evidential content for revisions or claims, according to the data protection clause included in this syllabus.
  • Due to the continuous nature of the computer tests, their mark may be kept for the Extraordinary Calls of this academic year. Nonetheless, those students who, for some justified reason, have not completed all the  continuous assessment activities can take a single global exam in which both the acquisition of knowledge and  the ability to apply it to practical situations will be assessed.
