4. COURSE DESCRIPTION AND TEACHING METHODOLOGY

Formative Activities

Teaching Methodology. Description

45 theoretical sessions about the contents of the program

Masterclass sessions of 50 minutes will be used to introduce the essential concepts with the support of different materials edited for that purpose (notes, slides and practical examples obtained from the textbooks indicated in the Booklist section) that will be accessible through the teaching -learning platform. Students will be encouraged to participate and ask questions. The instructor will also propose exercises to be solved during the sessions.

These sessions will be hold in the classroom.

10 sessions to solve practical exercises

Along these practical sessions of 50 minutes, proposed exercises related to the theoretical contents will be solved, individually or in groups, writing upon the board.

These sessions will be hold in the classroom.

5 computer sessions

Computer sessions will be devoted to practical computing exercises. The instructor will provide the necessary guidelines so that the students can individually perform different statistical analyses.

These computer sessions of 50 minutes will be hold in the computer room.

Tutorial sessions

Face-to-face tutorial sessions will be carried out at the scheduled time.

Students will be encouraged to attend to office hours (individually but also in small groups), not only to ask questions but for the instructor to check their progress.

Additionally, students can be attended via online tutorials.  

 

Students with special educational needs should contact the Student Attention Service (Servicio de Atención y Ayudas al Estudiante) in order to receive the appropriate academic support

5. ASSESSMENT METHODOLOGY

Computer practices (25%)  

Computer practices will be evaluated through a test with questions similar to those developed in the computer sessions, ensuring the student has acquired the required skill for the use of the software, ability to choose the right procedure and to draw appropriate conclusions. This evaluation will be place at the end of the term, in the last week of class. It is equivalent to 25% of the final grade of the course.

The score obtained in the part of computer practices in the second ordinary call, may be saved for the extraordinary call. If someone takes the exam in the extraordinary call, the grade obtained in the exam will be the one that counts.

Theoretical/Practical Exam (75%):

A written exam with practical exercises related to the contents of the course. They may contain short questions or multiple-choice questions to assess the degree of understanding of basic concepts. This exam supposes 75% of the final grade of this course.

Remarks

  • Participation in problem solving will be evaluated positively and will complete, if necessary, the final grade.
  • The student who does not take the theoretical-practical exam (75%) on the official date will be classified as "NO PRESENTADO" [NOT PRESENTED].
  • In onsite exams, the use of any type of technological device (phone, tablet...) is strictly forbidden, with the exception of the calculator.

7. VIRTUAL / CLASSROOM TEACHING SCENARIO

1. TEACHING METHODOLOGY AND FORMATIVE ACTIVITIES

A rotational synchronous learning model based on face-to-face sessions with 50% of the total student population, depending on the number of students enrolled in the group and the capacity of the classroom. The rest of the students may follow on-site sessions via videoconference.

If the number of students exceeds the capacity of the classroom and online transmission is not possible, an online format for the full group of students will be preferable.

Groups with a number of students above the limited classroom capacity.
