Unit 1. Introduction to environmental analytical chemistry

Unit 2. Sampling

Unit 3. Sample treatment

Unit 4. General methodology in instrumental analysis

Unit 5. Electrochemical techniques in environmental analysis

Unit 6. Spectroscopic techniques: molecular absorption

Unit 7. Spectroscopic techniques: molecular luminescence

Unit 10. Introduction to chromatographic separations

Unit 11. Gas chromatography

Unit 12. High performance liquid chromatography (HPLC)

Practical Program:

  • Basic knowledge: Preparation of standard solutions and auxiliary reagents.
  • Determination of conductivity of natural waters
  • Determination of nitrates in water
  • Determination of potassium in olive leaves by flame photometry.
  • Determination of heavy metals in soils or sediments
  • Gas chromatography. Identification and determination of organic pollutants. Sample preparation for gas chromatography: liquid-liquid extraction.

4. COURSE DESCRIPTION AND TEACHING METHODOLOGY

Large
group theoretical lessons (32 hours)

Activities in small-groups include: 16 hours of laboratory 10 hours of seminars: solving exercises, computer room, practical cases, presentation of work, etc.

Students with special educational needs should contact the Student Attention Service (Servicio de Atención y Ayudas al Estudiante) in order to receive the appropriate academic support

5. ASSESSMENT METHODOLOGY

Weight of the different instruments:

Final exam: 60%

Exercises, study cases and oral presentations: 15%

Laboratory reports and exam: 20%

Active participation on different activities: 5%

 

Attendance to practical sessions in small groups (both laboratory and seminars) is compulsory.

It is necessary to obtain a minimum qualification of 4,0 in the exam to compute the rest of activities

METHODOLOGY AND ACTIVITIES

Theoretical lessons large group (32 h)

Seminars in small groups (10 h in 2 h sessions)

8. VIRTUAL TEACHING SCENARIO

Theoretical lessons online (synchronous) through GSuite Meet (38 h)

Seminars in small groups (10 h in 2 h sessions) through GSuite Meet

Laboratory works are substituted by virtual online activities. Online activities include visualization of videos showing similar experimental works and computer simulations. Training in data treatment strategies will be achieved using experimental data provided.

Tutorization through GSuite Meet videoconference

Addressees: service providers who are the owners of the platforms where the exams are carried out and with whom the University of Jaén has signed the corresponding data access contracts.

Storage periods: those established in current in force regulations. In the specific case of exam videoconference recordings, not before the examination records and transcripts are closed or the exam can still be reviewed or challenged.

Rights: you can exercise your right of access, amendment, cancellation, opposition, suppression, limitation and portability by sending a letter to the postal or electronic address indicated above. In the event that you consider that your rights have been violated, you may submit a complaint to the Andalusian Council for Transparency and Data Protection www.ctpdandalucia.es
