3. CONTENT DESCRIPTION

Overwiew of Bioinorganic Chemistry. Essential Chemical Elements. Metal Functions in Biological Systems. Principles of Coordination Chemistry related to Bioinorganic Chemistry: Thermodynamic and Kinectic Aspects. Biochemistry Fundamentals: Proteins and their Constituents, Nucleic Acids and their Constituents, Other Metal-Binding Biomolecules. Metal Ions Transport and Storage. Biomineralization Processes. O 2 and N 2 Biological Activation Processes. Iron containing Biomolecules: Haem-proteins, non-haem proteins, siderophores. Copper Proteins and Enzymes. Molybdenum Enzymes. Vitamine B12 and Coenzyme B12. Zinc Proteins and Enzymes. Biological role of other transition metals: Vanadium, Chromium, Manganese and Nickel. Biological role of Alkaline and Alkalineearth Metals. Non metallic elements in biology. Bioniorganic Chemistry in Medicine. Toxicity of  Inorganic Systems.

4. COURSE DESCRIPTION AND TEACHING METHODOLOGY

Lecture (Theory, 32h): Oral exposition of the theoretical contents of the course by the lecturer, using audiovisual methods. 

Laboratory and Seminars (26h): Students perform several laboratory experiments and develop a laboratory notebook and a test about practical contents. Students also perform oral presentations  and resolution of exercises.  

Group tutorial sessions (2h) 

Homework (90h): Study of theoretical contents and preparation of exercises and oral presentations.

5. ASSESSMENT METHODOLOGY

Written test about theoretical contents (50%). 

Attendance at all seminar sessions. Resolution of exercises and  oral presentations. (30%). 

Attendance at all laboratory sessions. Laboratory report and tests about practical contents. (20%).

TEACHING METODOLOGY AND ACTIVITIES

Lecture (Theory, 32 h): Oral exposition of the theoretical contents of the course by the lecturer, using audiovisual methods. They will be presential sessions, except wheter the socio-sanitary conditions do not allow it.

Laboratory and Seminars (26 h): Students perform several laboratory experiments and develop a laboratory notebook and a test about practical contents. Students also perform oral presentations and resolution of exercises. They will be presential activities, except wheter the socio-sanitary conditions do not allow it.

Group tutorial sessions (2 h). They will be presential sessions, except wheter the socio-sanitary conditions do not allow it.

Homework (90 h): Study of theoretical contents and preparation of exercises and oral presentations.

 

EVALUATION SYSTEM

Written test about theoretical contents (50%). This evaluation will be presential, except wheter the socio-sanitary conditions do not allow it.

Attendance at all seminar sessions. Resolution of exercises and  oral presentations. (30%). This evaluation will be presential, except wheter the socio-sanitary conditions do not allow it.

TEACHING TOOLS

For online activities, they will be used the ILIAS (or PLATEA) platform or the set of tools included in Google Suite, as well as other types of resources such as electronic bibliographic resources that do not require a physical presence in the library. Both students and teachers will need communication infrastructure via internet (computer, camera, microphone and internet access; alternatively, a smartphone could be used).

 

In this multimodal scenario, the teaching staff involved in this subject, when appropiate, reserves the right to not give consent for the capture, publication, retransmission or reproduction of their speech, image, voice and explanations of chair, in the exercise of this teaching functions, in the field of the University of Jaén.

Group tutorial sessions (2 h). They will be online sessions.

Homework (90 h): Study of theoretical contents and preparation of exercises and oral presentations.

Purpose: In accordance with the Universities Law and other national and regional regulations in force, carrying out exams and assessment tests corresponding to the courses students are registered in. In order to avoid frauds while sitting the exam, the exam will be answered using a videoconference system, being able the academic staff of the University of Jaén to compare and contrast the image of the person who is answering the exam with the student's photographic files. Likewise, in order to provide the exam with evidential content for revisions or claims, in accordance with current regulation frameworks, the exam will be recorded and stored.

Addressees: service providers who are the owners of the platforms where the exams are carried out and with whom the University of Jaén has signed the corresponding data access contracts.

Storage periods: those established in current in force regulations. In the specific case of exam videoconference recordings, not before the examination records and transcripts are closed or the exam can still be reviewed or challenged.

Rights: you can exercise your right of access, amendment, cancellation, opposition, suppression, limitation and portability by sending a letter to the postal or electronic address indicated above.
