3. CONTENT DESCRIPTION

Chapter 1. Introduction to Developmental Psychology I: Basic Concepts and Theories.

History of developmental psychology. Notion and main determinants of psychological development. Models and theories in developmental psychology.

Chapter 2. Introduction to Developmental Psychology II: Methods.

Research designs in developmental psychology. Research techniques in developmental research. Ethical issues in research.


Chapter 3. Attachment.

Atachment theory. Atachment development. Atachment styles.

Chapter 4. Emotional Development.

Emotional expression, understanding and regulation. Emotional development through the life span.

Chapter 5. Personality Development.

Temperament and personality development. Self-concept. Self-esteem. Identity.

Chapter 6. The Development of Morality.

Theories in the development of morality. Development of prosocial behaviours. Development of antisocial behaviours.

Chapter 7. Development in the Family Context.

Family as a context of development: structure and functions. Different types of families. Parental styles and patterns of family discipline.

Chapter 8. Development in the Context of Peer Groups.

Interactions among peers and friendship. Acceptance among peers and popularity. Aging and social support. Other social influences.

4. COURSE DESCRIPTION AND TEACHING METHODOLOGY

The content of this subject will be presented through lectures and group dynamics to promote students learning. 

Besides, small group sessions will be used to present practical activities and to establish relations among contents. In the small group sessions bibliography guided search will be required. These sessions will also include presentations of video documentaries, seminars or analysis of cases and published research.

All of these activities will be conducted in Spanish language. Students enrolled in this subject through the PATIE program will have all study materials and examinations in English.

5. ASSESSMENT METHODOLOGY

The final qualification will be the summation of the qualifications in the final exam (70%), practical activities (20%) and class attendance and participation (10%). To pass the subject the student will have to pass the final exam and get a total qualification of 5 points.

Incoming international students who have difficulties in following the course in Spanish, will have the chance to request a single final exam covering both the teory and practice aspects of the course (100%).

7. VIRTUAL / CLASSROOM TEACHING SCENARIO

This scenario entails the presentation of face-to-face classes in variable size groups, according to the standing requirements of room capacity and of health and safety issued by the University and higher authorities. The degree of face-to-face teaching will be variable depending on available teaching facilities and standing health and safety conditions. Other (non face-to-face) activities may include real-time online classes and asynchronous activities, delivered through available technical means provided by the University of Jaén.

Sessions for practical activities, oral presentations and coursework, with a variable degree of face-to-face interaction depending on available infrastructure and health-safety conditions.

Large-group activities (45 hours)

Lectures in variable size groups with a variable degree of face-to-face interaction depending on available infrastructure and health-safety conditions.

All theory coursework will be assessed through face-to-face exams when possible according to standing health-safety conditions and available infrastructure. Otherwise, coursework will be assessed online via available technical means provided by the University of Jaén.

Purpose: In accordance with the Universities Law and other national and regional regulations in force, carrying out exams and assessment tests corresponding to the courses students are registered in. Addressees: service providers who are the owners of the platforms where the exams are carried out and with whom the University of Jaén has signed the corresponding data access contracts.

Storage periods: those established in current in force regulations. In the specific case of exam videoconference recordings, not before the examination records and transcripts are closed or the exam can still be reviewed or challenged.

Rights: you can exercise your right of access, amendment, cancellation, opposition, suppression, limitation and portability by sending a letter to the postal or electronic address indicated above.
