4. COURSE DESCRIPTION AND TEACHING METHODOLOGY

Lectures will be devoted to the analysis of the historical, social and cultural background of the chosen authors and works. Recommended bibliographical material, as well as documents uploaded to the virtual space of the subject, will be used in the lectures.

Practical sessions will focus on the reading and analysis of the selected works. Students must read and study these texts before the practical sessions. They should also be prepared to discuss them with the teacher and their classmates.

Special attention will be paid to the students' active involvement and participation.

Students with special educational needs should contact the Student Attention Service (Servicio de Atención y Ayudas al Estudiante) in order to receive the appropriate academic support

5. ASSESSMENT METHODOLOGY

The final mark includes:

a) Active participation in class discussions and in the activities proposed (10%)

b) Final exam (65%), where the following aspects will be evaluated:

- Students' knowledge of literature in English, from the beginnings till the contemporary age (Short questions and essay-like questions)

- Identification of the most relevant works and authors

- Literary commentaries on a selection of texts

c) Submission of an essay on the novel  Claire of the Sea Light (2013), by Edwidge Danticat (25%)

The assessment procedure S1 develops competences  CB2, CB4, E01and G11. These competences lead to learning outcomes R10 and  R11.

The assessment procedure S2 develops competences CB1, E12, E13, E22 and E23. These competences lead to learning outcomes R13, R14 and R20.

The assessment procedure S3 develops competences CB3, CB5, E15 and G04. These competences lead to learning outcomes R04 and R15.

Purpose: In accordance with the Universities Law and other national and regional regulations in force, carrying out exams and assessment tests corresponding to the courses students are registered in. In order to avoid frauds while sitting the exam, the exam will be answered using a videoconference system, being able the academic staff of the University of Jaén to compare and contrast the image of the person who is answering the exam with the student's photographic files. Likewise, in order to provide the exam with evidential content for revisions or claims, in accordance with current regulation frameworks, the exam will be recorded and stored.

Legitimacy: compliance with legal obligations (Universities Law) and other national and regional regulations currently in force.

Addressees: service providers who are the owners of the platforms where the exams are carried out and with whom the University of Jaén has signed the corresponding data access contracts.

Storage periods: those established in current in force regulations. In the specific case of exam videoconference recordings, not before the examination records and transcripts are closed or the exam can still be reviewed or challenged.

Rights: you can exercise your right of access, amendment, cancellation, opposition, suppression, limitation and portability by sending a letter to the postal or electronic address indicated above. In the event that you consider that your rights have been violated, you may submit a complaint to the Andalusian Council for Transparency and Data Protection www.ctpdandalucia.es
