3. CONTENT DESCRIPTION

 

A)   MORPHOSYNTACTIC CONTENTS

 

1. Verb morphology.

1.1. The Arabic root system: three root verbs. The basic form of the triliteral regular verb.

1.2. Expression of time: aspect, tense, mood and voice.

1.3. The perfect verb: past verb.

1.4. Introduction to the derived forms of the verb. Using a dictionary.

 

2. Noun patterns: nouns and adjectives formed from verbs.

2.1. Verbal noun.

2.2. Nisba adjective.

2.3. Noun of place.

2.4. Noun of instrument.

2.5. Plurals: Broken plural.

2.6. Arabic numbers: cardinal numbers 1-100.

2.7. Superlative adjective.

 

3. Verbal sentences.

3.1. Arabic word order.

3.2. Agreement and concordance.

3.3. Making verb negative.

3.4. Forming questions: questions words.

3.5. Possession: idafa and attached pronouns (review); prepositions for ownership.

3.6. Words and expressions to link sentences together: connectors.

 

B)   LEXICON, CONVERSATION AND BASIC COMMUNICATIVE FUNCTIONS

  1. Countries and capital cities. Nationalities. Geographycal position.
  2. Counting things. How many? How much? In the market. Currencies. What is it made of? Describing what you have.
  3. What are these? The party. Colours. Going shopping.
  4. Eating and drinking. At the grocer's. At the restaurant.
  5. Asking questions about the past. What happened yesterday?
  6. What´s the weather like? Describing the weather. Writing notes and postcards. On vacation.

 

C)   ARAB-ISLAMIC CULTURE AND SOCIETY

1. An introduction to Arabic literature.

 

4. COURSE DESCRIPTION AND TEACHING METHODOLOGY

Lectures with the whole group will be mainly devoted to the presentation of grammatical, lexical, functional and phonological concepts. Students are encouraged to take active part in class by asking questions.

As for practical lessons, they will be dedicated to the fulfillment of the textbook's exercises and additional materials. It is of paramount importance that students carry out class-time exercises and homework tasks. In addition, it is essential that they attend classes regularly and participate actively in class.

Tutorials will let students be helped with specific issues on the course activities, as well as they will allow the lecturer to follow up their progress in the acquisition of knowledge and in the correct process of learning.

Students with special educational needs should contact the Student Attention Service (Servicio de Atención y Ayudas al Estudiante) in order to receive the appropriate academic support

Assessment methodology

Purpose: In accordance with the Universities Law and other national and regional regulations in force, carrying out exams and assessment tests corresponding to the courses students are registered in. In order to avoid frauds while sitting the exam, the exam will be answered using a videoconference system, being able the academic staff of the University of Jaén to compare and contrast the image of the person who is answering the exam with the student's photographic files. Likewise, in order to provide the exam with evidential content for revisions or claims, in accordance with current regulation frameworks, the exam will be recorded and stored.

Legitimacy: compliance with legal obligations (Universities Law) and other national and regional regulations currently in force.

Addressees: service providers who are the owners of the platforms where the exams are carried out and with whom the University of Jaén has signed the corresponding data access contracts.

Storage periods: those established in current in force regulations. In the specific case of exam videoconference recordings, not before the examination records and transcripts are closed or the exam can still be reviewed or challenged.

Rights: you can exercise your right of access, amendment, cancellation, opposition, suppression, limitation and portability by sending a letter to the postal or electronic address indicated above. In the event that you consider that your rights have been violated, you may submit a complaint to the Andalusian Council for Transparency and Data Protection www.ctpdandalucia.es
