COURSE CONTENTS

 

 

Unit 1. Introduction

Types of Surveys. Evaluation of the standard uncertainty of the most usual mensurands in Surveying.

 

Block I. Planimetric surveying (Units 2 to 6)

Unit 2. Plane surveying of small areas

Concept of simple methods. Instrumentation. Tape measurements. Sistematic and random errors. Uncertainty. Surverying method. Surface area calculations. Evaluation of its uncertainty.

 

Unit 3. Positioning by plane radiation.

Fundamentals of plane radiation. Instrumentation. Evaluation of the uncertainty of measurement. Advantages and disadvantages of this method. Maximun distance of radiation.

 

Unit 4. Traverse surveys

General background and fundamentals of traverse surveys. Instrumentation, benchmarks and noteforms. Evaluation of the uncertainty of a traverse. Computation of azimuths and coordinates. Special cases.

 

Unit 5. Intersection methods

Types of intersection methods. Fundamentals of plane intersection (triangulation and trilateration). Computations and evaluation of the uncertainty of measurement. Plane multiple intersection. Fundamentals of plane resection. Computations and evaluation of the uncertainty of measurement. Multiple resection.

 

Unit 6. Least squares adjustments

Mathematical models. Parametric adjustment. Most usual observational equations. Surveying applications.

Block II. Altimetric surveying (Units 7 to 9)

Unit 7. Altimetric reference system

Level surfaces. Elevation, height and height difference. Height systems. Geopotential numbers. Curvature and refraction. Corrections. Experimental determination of the refraction coeficient and evaluation of its uncertainty. Methods of measuring difference in elevation.

Unit 8. Spirit, direct or differential leveling

Introduction. Simple leveling. Methods. Differential leveling. Methods. Calculation of the misclosure error in a leveling circuit. Evaluation of uncertainty, tolerances and corrections. Double leveling.

4. COURSE DESCRIPTION AND TEACHING METHODOLOGY

EDUCATION METHODS AND ACTIVITIES

Theory and problem classes will be carried out by participatory lectures. In addition, some case studies will be developed between all the students.

Practical classes will be carried out by practical supervision in tutorial classes. Students must develop and deliver along the semester individual reports of the different practicals. There will be an exam in the last session.

Students with special educational needs should contact the Student Attention Service (Servicio de Atención y Ayudas al Estudiante) in order to receive the appropriate academic support

5. ASSESSMENT METHODOLOGY

ASSESSMENT

T he assessment of the course will be carried out in the following way:

THEORY EXAM. This exam is composed by two parts: Theory (40%) and practical exercises (60%). The mark obtained in this exam will account for 60% of the final mark of the subject. Both parts must be passed independently.

PRACTICALS. Every group of 20 students will be divided in 5 teams of 4 students. Every team will develop some field works and every student must individually do the calculations of the different practicals preparing some reports which must be delivered along the semester. There will be also an individual written exam in the last practical session. The mark obtained in the report (50%), in the individual exam (40%) together to the continuous assessment by the lecturer/instructor along the semester (10%) will constitute the final mark in the practicals part. This will account for 40% of the final mark of the subject. Practicals reports and final exam must be passed independently to pass the practical part.

7. VIRTUAL / CLASSROOM TEACHING SCENARIO

The multimodal or mixed scenario will be 100% face-to-face, so everything in this teaching guide is applied to the usual face-to-face classes.The School may vary the attendance percentage depending on the number of students and the capacity of the classroom/laboratory according to sanitary measures. In case of less than 100% attendance, there will be periodic rotation of students as determined by the School.

TEACHING METHODOLOGY AND TRAINING ACTIVITIES

  • A1 - Expository classes in large group (100% face-to-face). Class to all the students of the group in the assigned schedule and classroom. Participatory face-to-face classes according to the methodology described in this guide with general character.
  • A2 - Small group classes (100% face-to-face). Classes to all the students of the group in the assigned schedule and classroom. Practical classes of two hours each, either in the field with surveying instruments or in laboratory for carrying out practicals activities.
  • Tutoring (face-to-face and online).

EVALUATION SYSTEM (Ordinary and extraordinary exams)

The evaluation of the subject will be carried out as follows, being necessary to independently approve bothe the theoretical and the practical part:

Extraordinary call 1 (face-to-face 100%)

Theory

Theory and problems exam (60% of the final grade). The theory part constitutes 40% and the problem part 60%. The two parts must be approved independently.

Practices

It is a requirement to have passed the practices in a previous course to appear at this call.

Ordinary call 1 (face-to-face 100%)

Theory

Theory and problems exam (60% of the final grade). The theory part constitutes 40% and the problem part 60%. The two parts must be approved independently. Passed parts of the exam of the ordinary call 1 for the extraordinary 2 will not be saved. The full exam will be saved in case of having been passed, but not having passed the evaluation of the practices.

Practices

Attendance: Attendance at all practice sessions, both in the field and in the office, is mandatory. Failure to comply with this obligation means not passing the practices and, therefore, the subject.

Memories of practices: It is compulsory to make and deliver the corresponding memories on the dates indicated at the beginning of the course to pass the course. In order to pass the practices, you must pass the reports. Failure to present the reports will mean a score of zero points in this part.

Practice exam. It is mandatory to approve it. Failure to submit to it will result in a score of zero points in this part.

The practice mark (40% of the final grade) consists of three parts:

  • Continuous evaluation of field and cabinet work (10%)
  • Practice memories (50%)
  • Practice exam (40%)

Extraordinary call 2 (face-to-face 100%)

RESOURCES

The basic resources of classroom teaching and laboratories will be used: computer, projector, blackboard, etc. In practical classes, topographic instruments and the virtual teaching platform will also be used for the delivery of tasks, exercises, forums, repository of teaching material for theory and practices, etc. Online electronic teaching resources will also be used for tutoring as well as electronic bibliographic resources from the UJA that do not require a physical presence in the library.

 

8. VIRTUAL TEACHING SCENARIO

The non-classroom setting will be 100% online.

TEACHING METHODOLOGY AND TRAINING ACTIVITIES

A1 - Exhibition classes in large group (online). Class all students in the group at the assigned time via videoconference. Participatory classes according to the methodology described in this guide with general character.
A2 - Classes in small group (online). Classes all students in the group on schedule and assigned. Practical classes, lasting two hours each. In case of not being able to take data in the field, they will be replaced by other data provided by the teacher.
