4. COURSE DESCRIPTION AND TEACHING METHODOLOGY

Training activities

Teaching methodology description

45 expository classes: master classes, theory exposition and examples

45 sessions in the classroom (master classes, theory exposition and example resolution). The masterclass will be used to introduce the essential concepts with the support of different materials edited for that purpose (notes, sides and practical examples obtained from the manuals indicated in the bibliography) that will be accessible through the intranet site "Docencia virtual".

Practical classes: classes in  computer lab

5 sessions in computer lab: the students will be trained to use adequate statistical software.  

Practical classes: practical problems and exercises

10 sessions Sessions where proposed exercises related to the theoretical contents that will be solved on the board by students and exposed in class to the rest of the group for further study.

 

Students with special educational needs should contact the Student Attention Service (Servicio de Atención y Ayudas al Estudiante) in order to receive the appropriate academic support

5. ASSESSMENT METHODOLOGY

The student's final mark is the weighted average of the marks obtained in the following items:

  • A written exam to solve practical exercises related to the contents of the course. It could include short questions or select-options questions to assess the comprehension level on basic concepts (weight: 50%). You must obtain a score above 30% on this test in order to pass the subject.

Continuous assessment activities:

  • In-class tests, with theoretical questions and practical exercises, carried out throughout the teaching period (weight, 25%).
  • In-class test at the end of the term to assess the acquired ability with the statistical software and the capability of the student to select the appropriated method and provide accurate conclusions (weight: 25%).

Due to the continuous nature of these tests, their mark will be kept for the 2nd Extraordinary Call of this academic year. Nonetheless, those students who, for some justified reason, have not completed all the continuous assessment activities can take a single global exam in which both the acquisition of knowledge and the ability to apply it to practical situations will be assessed. 

Remarks:

  • Participation in problem solving will be evaluated positively and will complete, if necessary, the final grade.
  • A student will be marked as "No presentado" (no mark) if they do not take the final exam.
  • For the face-to-face tests and exam, the use of any type of technological device (cellurar phone, tablet, smartwach..),  with the exception of a calculator is strictly prohibited.

7. VIRTUAL / CLASSROOM TEACHING SCENARIO

TEACHING METHODOLOGY AND TRAINING ACTIVITIES

All activities will be 100% face-to-face or 50% face-to-face (with group rotation and videoconference broadcast to the rest of the group), depending on the number of students enrolling in the subject and the capacity of the classroom. If the number of students exceeds the capacity of the classroom and it does not have the technical systems required for broadcasting, all the students will take online lessons.

5 sessions in computer lab, with periodical rotation of students and broadcasting to the rest of the group. If the classroom did not have the required broadcasting technical system, these sessions would be substituted by online videoconferences for all students.

Practical classes: practical problems and exercises

50% face-to-face (rotation), provided that the classroom has the technical system required for broadcasting

10 sessions (50% small groups, broadcasting and student rotation), for the resolution of problems and exercises autonomously by the students. If the classroom did not have the required broadcasting technical system, these sessions would be substituted by online videoconferences for all students

If the exam or some of the assessment tests could not be carried out face-to-face, they will be carried out online (see the non-attendance scenario and the data protection clause included in this syllabus).

8. VIRTUAL TEACHING SCENARIO

Both theoretical and practical lessons will be adapted to the virtual format and will be preferably held by videoconference, at the scheduled time.

45 online sessions (master classes, theory exposition and example resolution) by videoconference, with the help of slides, virtual whiteboard and explanatory videos with examples and solved exercises. All the necessary material will be available on the virtual teaching platform.

 

Practical classes: classes in  computer lab

5  practical sessions by videoconference. Since the required software is available at the virtual PCs service of the University of Jaén, students can easily carry out practical tasks developed in these online classes.

10 online sessions  for the discussion and resolution of problems and practical cases by the students.

Tutorial sessions will be held online by videoconference (synchronous at the scheduled time or asynchronous). 

ASSESSMENT SYSTEM

- Online final exam   (written test of exercises and practical problems):  50%. You must obtain a score above 30% on this test in order to pass the subject.

Continuous assessment activities:

- Online oral or written tests, with theoretical questions and practical exercises, carried out throughout the teaching period: 25  %

- Resolution of practical cases with computer, which will be assessed through online tests throughout the teaching period: 25%

Due to the continuous nature of these tests, their mark may be kept for the 2nd Extraordinary Call of this academic year. Nonetheless, those students who, for some justified reason, have not completed all the continuous assessment activities can take a single global exam in which both the acquisition of knowledge and the ability to apply it to practical situations will be assessed.

A student will be marked as "No presentado" (no mark) if they do not take the final exam.

Both the continuous assessment tests and the exam will be online. To guarantee the reliability of this assessment system, the following measures will be taken:

If the number of students allows it, the continuous assessment tests on theoretical content may be carried out orally and individually.

  • The exam will be divided into different parts and the response time of each one will be limited.
  • Both the continuous assessment tests and the exam will be aimed at evaluating the ability to understand the contents, the correct application of techniques and the interpretation of solutions.
  • While taking the continuous assessment tests and the exam, the students must be connected to a  Google Meet session, keeping the microphone and camera both open.
  • The online evaluation tests may be recorded, in order to provide them with evidential content for revisions or claims, according to the data protection clause included in this syllabus.

DATA PROTECTION CLAUSE (on line exams)

Purpose: In accordance with the Universities Law and other national and regional regulations in force, carrying out exams and assessment tests corresponding to the courses students are registered in. In order to avoid frauds while sitting the exam, the exam will be answered using a videoconference system, being able the academic staff of the University of Jaén to compare and contrast the image of the person who is answering the exam with the student's photographic files. Likewise, in order to provide the exam with evidential content for revisions or claims, in accordance with current regulation frameworks, the exam will be recorded and stored.

Legitimacy: compliance with legal obligations (Universities Law) and other national and regional regulations currently in force.

Addressees: service providers who are the owners of the platforms where the exams are carried out and with whom the University of Jaén has signed the corresponding data access contracts.

Storage periods: those established in current in force regulations. In the specific case of exam videoconference recordings, not before the examination records and transcripts are closed or the exam can still be reviewed or challenged.

Rights: you can exercise your right of access, amendment, cancellation, opposition, suppression, limitation and portability by sending a letter to the postal or electronic address indicated above. In the event that you consider that your rights have been violated, you may submit a complaint to the Andalusian Council for Transparency and Data Protection www.ctpdandalucia.es
