Theoric curriculum

1. An introduction to molecular biology and applications to human disease

2. Molecular pathology of human disease.

    -Molecular basis of cancer: The hallmarks of cancer. Oncogenes and tumor supressor genes.   

    -Hypoxia: The role of reactive oxygen and nitrogen species in hypoxia. Hypoxia-inducible factor.

3. Molecular diagnosis of human disease and personalized medicine.

    -Molecular markers.

    -Radio and chemosensitivity.

4. Gene therapy.

    -Concept and types.

    -Vectors for gene transfer in gene therapy.

    -Main diseases target of gene therapy treatment

    -Therapeutic application of IPS cells

 

Laboratory practice

Effect of hypoxia on reactive oxygen species production

 

 

4. COURSE DESCRIPTION AND TEACHING METHODOLOGY

Teaching metodology:

a) Theoretical sessions, lectures and seminars in Spanish (26 hours).

b) Laboratory practice (4 hours).

  Teaching metodology for patie students:

a) Tutorial sessions, proposal of activities and supply of printted material in English (in presence of professor or virtual), 1 hour per week

b) Lecture (Practice): explanation of laboratory practice and seminars in English, 5 hours

c) Homework: 4 hours per week

5. ASSESSMENT METHODOLOGY

Assessment methodology:

1) Attendance and active participation in theoretical sessions and lectures: 20%

2) Knowledge and understanding of the theoretical contents: 30%  

3) Presentation and discussion of assigned research papers: 30%

4) Attendence to laboratory sessions and lab report: 20%

7. VIRTUAL / CLASSROOM TEACHING SCENARIO

TEACHING METHODOLOGY AND TRAINING ACTIVITIES 

  1. a) Theoretical sessions (face to face, 12 hours), lectures (online in a synchronous manner, 10 hours) and seminars (face to face, 4 hours), all of them in Spanish.
  2. b) Laboratory practice (4 hours): face to face in the laboratory and in the computer room. Online material could also be provided.

Teaching methodology for patie students: 
a) Tutorial sessions, proposal of activities and supply of printed material in English (face to face or virtually), 1 hour per week 
b) Lecture (Practice): explanation of laboratory practice and seminars in English, 5 hours (face to face or on line in a synchronous manner). 
c) Homework: 4 hours per week.

The use of the electronic bibliographic resources included in the bibliography section of the original course syllabus will be promoted.

Computer resources: ILIAS teaching platform, e-mail, Google Meet, free software, and any other offered by the University of Jaén.

8. VIRTUAL TEACHING SCENARIO

Purpose: In accordance with the Universities Law and other national and regional regulations in force, carrying out exams and assessment tests corresponding to the courses students are registered in. In order to avoid frauds while sitting the exam, the exam will be answered using a videoconference system, being able the academic staff of the University of Jaén to compare and contrast the image of the person who is answering the exam with the student's photographic files. Likewise, in order to provide the exam with evidential content for revisions or claims, in accordance with current regulation frameworks, the exam will be recorded and stored.

Legitimacy: compliance with legal obligations (Universities Law) and other national and regional regulations currently in force.

Addressees: service providers who are the owners of the platforms where the exams are carried out and with whom the University of Jaén has signed the corresponding data access contracts.

Storage periods: those established in current in force regulations. In the specific case of exam videoconference recordings, not before the examination records and transcripts are closed or the exam can still be reviewed or challenged.

Rights: you can exercise your right of access, amendment, cancellation, opposition, suppression, limitation and portability by sending a letter to the postal or electronic address indicated above. In the event that you consider that your rights have been violated, you may submit a complaint to the Andalusian Council for Transparency and Data Protection www.ctpdandalucia.es
