3. CONTENT DESCRIPTION

Quality concepts. Fundamentals.  Historical evolution of the concept of quality. Quality management systems. Models of excellence. EFQM model.

Continuous Improvement.  Quality improvement process .  Techniques and tools applied to problem solving and continuous improvement of quality. Kaizen method. Customer satisfaction.

Normative references of the quality systems: Standardization, certification and accreditation. Quality assurance. Series ISO 9000.  Standards: ISO 9001, UNE-EN-ISO 17025 and UNE-EN-ISO 14001. The good laboratory practice (GLP, GLP). Documents of quality systems.

ISO 9001: Historical evolution. Principles of the model. Object and field of application. Terms and definitions. The quality management system. Responsibility. Management of resources. Measurement, analysis and improvement.

ISO 17025: Organization and infrastructure of the testing laboratories: ISO 17025:2005. Historical evolution. Principles of the standard. Object and field of application. Standards for consultation. Terms and definitions. Requirements relating to the management. Technical requirements.

Metrology in the quality of the chemical metrology laboratories: Traceability. Analytical references.  Certified reference materials. Calibration and validation procedures. Estimation of uncertainty. Internal quality control. Activities of control according to ISO 17025. Control charts.

Analytical instruments Management.  Regulatory requirements. The lifecycle of the measuring equipment. Features, selection, acquisition, reception and development of a team. Stages of routine operation of the equipment. Documentation.

Intercomparison tests.  Types of intercomparison exercises. Proficiency testing. Certification and collaborative exercises. Design and realization of intercomparison exercises.

Quality assessment: audits and accreditation of analytical laboratories.  Types of audits. Planning and conducting the audits. Stages of the audit. Check lists. Accreditation bodies. Accreditation process.

4. COURSE DESCRIPTION AND TEACHING METHODOLOGY

Masterclasses: primarily expository method using audiovisual material. The participation of the student will be promoted in class.

Academic activities: consist of the resolution of case studies and exercises. As a complement, the student may work outside the hours of class with regular meetings with Professor.

Exhibition and debate sessions: the student must present and discuss in class the results and findings activities carried out throughout the course.

External visit: An accreditated laboratory will be visited.

Students with special educational needs should contact the Student Attention Service (Servicio de Atención y Ayudas al Estudiante) in order to receive the appropriate academic support

5. ASSESSMENT METHODOLOGY

Evaluated competences:

Written exam: Q4, B12 and CE18.

Exercises, Presentations: Q6, B7 y B12, CE18

A written exam at the end of the course will compute 60% of the final grade. A minimum mark of 4 is mandatory to count the rest of activities. The evaluation system will be the same in both examination calls (ordinary and extraordary)

Purpose: In accordance with the Universities Law and other national and regional regulations in force, carrying out exams and assessment tests corresponding to the courses students are registered in. In order to avoid frauds while sitting the exam, the exam will be answered using a videoconference system, being able the academic staff of the University of Jaén to compare and contrast the image of the person who is answering the exam with the student's photographic files. Likewise, in order to provide the exam with evidential content for revisions or claims, in accordance with current regulation frameworks, the exam will be recorded and stored.

Legitimacy: compliance with legal obligations (Universities Law) and other national and regional regulations currently in force.

Addressees: service providers who are the owners of the platforms where the exams are carried out and with whom the University of Jaén has signed the corresponding data access contracts.

Storage periods: those established in current in force regulations. In the specific case of exam videoconference recordings, not before the examination records and transcripts are closed or the exam can still be reviewed or challenged.

Rights: you can exercise your right of access, amendment, cancellation, opposition, suppression, limitation and portability by sending a letter to the postal or electronic address indicated above. In the event that you consider that your rights have been violated, you may submit a complaint to the Andalusian Council for Transparency and Data Protection www.ctpdandalucia.es
