4. COURSE DESCRIPTION AND TEACHING METHODOLOGY

Theory classes.

Practical laboratory sessions in small groups where the student will apply different techniques and experimental protocols related to the theoretical contents. The student will have to collect and discuss the obtained results after each practical session.

Practical activities and problem resolution in small groups.

Individual and collective tutorial sessions, where the student will be able to ask and solve questions guided by the professor.

Students with special educational needs should contact the Student Attention Service (Servicio de Atención y Ayudas al Estudiante) in order to receive the appropriate academic support

5. ASSESSMENT METHODOLOGY

Theory will be evaluated by a written test. It is needed to obtain at least an score of 5 of 10 points in this examination in order to add the scores of the other activities to the global qualification.

The qualification of practical contents will depend on results obtained in laboratory sessions (50%) and a practices examination (50%).

Attendance to all of the problem resolution sessions will be mandatory (exceptions will be made in case of properly justified situations). Problem resolution sessions will be evaluated accordingly to the results obtained in these sessions.

6. BOOKLIST
MAIN BOOKLIST:
  • absolute, ultimate guide to Lehninger principles of biochemistry : study guide and solutions manual Marcy Osgood, Karen Ocorr. Edition: 6th ed. Author: Osgood, Nancy J.. Publisher: W. H. Freeman and Company,  (Library)
7. VIRTUAL / CLASSROOM TEACHING SCENARIO

Methodology:

Theory classes to large group: 44 sessions on the contents of the program. 100% online. The In-person format would only applied at the proposal of the Faculty of Experimental Sciences and / or the Vice-rector / s with competitions if the necessary conditions exist. 1 hour-long sessions in synchronous format using the tools provided by the Virtual Teaching and Computer services of the UJA.

The practical sessions will be carried out in the laboratory in small group, at 50% attendance. Each session will be divided into two parts. Half of the small group will attend each half of the session. After each session and outside the laboratory, students must respond online to a questionnaire, which must be delivered to the teaching staff for their evaluation within the agreed period through the Virtual Teaching platform.

The classes of Learning Based on Problems (LBP) will be carried out 100% face-to-face, in small group, if there are classrooms with sufficient capacity to maintain the safety distance.

The tutoring sessions, individual or collective, will be carried out synchronously through videoconference or asynchronous through the Virtual Teaching forum.

Evaluation system

Theory: The exams of the ordinary and extraordinary calls will be carried out at 100% of attendance, if there are classrooms with sufficient capacity to maintain the safety distance. If this is not the case, the evaluation tests will be carried out 100% online, using forms of objective questions (multiple choice test, numerical results, keywords, etc.) based on the integration of the contents of the subject. The teaching staff will monitor the completion of the exam for each student through video conference.

The evaluation criteria and procedures for practical and LBP activities are maintained as in the classroom setting. The theory of the subject must be approved to compute the grades from LBP and practical activities .

8. VIRTUAL TEACHING SCENARIO

Methodology

Theory classes to large group: 44 sessions on the contents of the program. 100% online. 1 hour sessions in synchronous format using the tools provided by the Teaching Virtual and Computing services of the UJA.

Laboratory sessions will be replaced by video demonstrations, tutored in small group via videoconference. The videos will reproduce the development of the experimental protocols proposed in the subject. Students will receive information and feasible results with experimentation carried out in the demonstrations and  will have to respond to a series of exercises for evaluation.

The directed activities (LBP) will be carried out in small groups in a tutored way by videoconference. It will be required the answering and delivery of a questionnaire.

The tutored sessions, individual or collective, will be carried out synchronously through videoconference or could be asynchronous through the Virtual Teaching forum.

Evaluation system

Theory: The exams of the ordinary and extraordinary calls will be carried out 100% online through online forms of objective questions (multiple choice test, numerical results, keywords, etc.) and short answer, based on the application and integration of the contents of the subject. The time for the examination will be adjusted. The teachers will monitor the completion of the exam through videoconference.

Assessment of works and exercises, raised in virtual sessions of practices and LBP. Students will be able to self-evaluate their answers to the questionnaires, having the correct answers once the exercise is delivered, and communicating to the teacher the qualification that they consider fair. The grade provided by the student himself will not be binding, but will be subject to the consideration of the teaching staff.

The Theory aspect of the subject must be passed in order to compute the grades for practices and directed activities.
