3. CONTENT DESCRIPTION

CONTENTS:

  • Block 1: The field of Cultural Anthropology. The comparative method in social anthropology. Applied Anthropology.
  • Block 2: Culture. Definitions of culture and society. Fundamental dimensions of culture. The universal pattern. Ethnocentrism and cultural relativism. Biological and evolutionary roots of human behavior and culture. Sociocultural change.
  • Block 3: Sociocultural spheres. Modes of production and reproduction. Nature and logic of capitalism. The domestic sphere of culture. Family and marriage. Relationship, residence and filiation. The religion.

4. COURSE DESCRIPTION AND TEACHING METHODOLOGY

1. Lectures in large group:
- Introductory activities.
- Audiovisual projections.
- Exposition of theory and general examples.
- Interactive master classes with ICT support.
ACTIVITY: Lectures by the teacher.
METHODOLOGY: Large group and teaching groups.
RELATIONSHIP WITH THE COMPETENCES: To explain and explain the contents of the subject, in order to facilitate the students their knowledge and the acquisition of the competences assigned to the subject.

2. Classes in groups of practices:
- Debates.
- Presentations / exhibitions.
- Critical analysis of articles and other bibliography.
ACTIVITY: Practical classes done by the teacher with the students.
METHODOLOGY: Teaching groups and personal dedication of the student.
RELATIONSHIP WITH THE COMPETENCES: To facilitate to the students the acquisition of competences (knowledge, abilities, aptitudes) of the subject.

3. Group work and non-face-to-face work of the student:
- Participation in projects of educational innovation.
ACTIVITY: Personal work of the students, done individually and / or as a team.
METHODOLOGY: Readings, study and preparation of written materials (summaries, notes), writing works.
RELATIONSHIP WITH THE COMPETENCES: Assimilation and learning of the contents and the competences of the subject.

4. Other activities:
- Involvement in extra-academic university activities.
ACTIVITY: Tutorials.
METHODOLOGY: Individual or group tutoring of the teacher with the students.
RELATIONSHIP WITH THE COMPETENCES: To raise and resolve doubts concerning the contents of the subject, thus contributing to the acquisition of competences.

METHODOLOGY: Evaluation tests.
RELATIONSHIP WITH THE COMPETENCES: To assess to what extent the student has acquired the contents and the competences of the subject.

5. ASSESSMENT METHODOLOGY

In case of suspending the subject, the points obtained in the rest
evaluation indicators shall be kept for the examinations ordinary 2 and extraordinary examinations to the affected pupils may be present, but only for those (the student who does not exceed the subject in those calls must be adapted to the program and working arrangements of the subject to be established for the next course academic year).

7. VIRTUAL / CLASSROOM TEACHING SCENARIO

Format (online):

The students will be required to write a research paper.  The topic of the work will be based on some of the chapters of the book, elaborating a synthesis and a reflection on this topic. Topics can include situational identity (ethnic, gender, religious or age), social reciprocity, codes of respect and politeness, ceremonies, rites of passage, kinship interaction or language use. The paper will be a maximum of 7 pages (1.5 line spacing, 12 point Times Roman font, 1 inch margin on all sides) excluding references and annexes.

Purpose: In accordance with the Universities Law and other national and regional regulations in force, carrying out exams and assessment tests corresponding to the courses students are registered in. In order to avoid frauds while sitting the exam, the exam will be answered using a videoconference system, being able the academic staff of the University of Jaén to compare and contrast the image of the person who is answering the exam with the student's photographic files. Likewise, in order to provide the exam with evidential content for revisions or claims, in accordance with current regulation frameworks, the exam will be recorded and stored.

Legitimacy: compliance with legal obligations (Universities Law) and other national and regional regulations currently in force.

Addressees: service providers who are the owners of the platforms where the exams are carried out and with whom the University of Jaén has signed the corresponding data access contracts.

Storage periods: those established in current in force regulations. In the specific case of exam videoconference recordings, not before the examination records and transcripts are closed or the exam can still be reviewed or challenged.

Rights: you can exercise your right of access, amendment, cancellation, opposition, suppression, limitation and portability by sending a letter to the postal or electronic address indicated above. In the event that you consider that your rights have been violated, you may submit a complaint to the Andalusian Council for Transparency and Data Protection www.ctpdandalucia.es
