UNIT I.- GENERAL ASPECTS OF THE AGING PROCESS

Basic concepts and definitions in Geriatrics and Gerontology

Aging process: Criteria that define it

Aging in figures. Statistical data

Theories of aging

UNIT II.- CULTURAL AND SOCIAL ASPECTS OF AGING

Ethnographic and historical contributions about old age

The aging process in different cultures

Psychosocial, cultural and economic aspects of old age.

Social and family environment. Isolation and social uprooting.

Retirement.

UNIT III.- CHARACTERISTICS OF THE AGING PROCESS. HEALTHY ANCIENT

Characteristics of the aging process

Biological, psychological and social changes inherent in aging.

Influence of changes in the satisfaction of human needs:

Need to Breathe

Need to drink and eat.

Need to Eliminate. Need to Move, maintain good posture

4. COURSE DESCRIPTION AND TEACHING METHODOLOGY

Classroom lectures in large group. Workshops: Laboratory practices, simulations, group dynamics based on experimentation, debates, computer classroom. Guided Students with special educational needs should contact the Student Attention Service (Servicio de Atención y Ayudas al Estudiante) in order to receive the appropriate academic support

5. ASSESSMENT METHODOLOGY

ASPECT: Concepts of the subject dealt with in the subject

CRITERIA: Adequacy of the answer to the question. Concretion to the case. Detail and synthesis of the answer. Structured written expression. Mastery and application of the contents.

It takes 5 to pass the course

INSTRUMENT: Theoretical examination of clinical cases

WEIGHT: 65%.

ASPECT: Attendance and performance of LABORATORY PRACTICES (simulated clinical situations)

CRITERIA: Compulsory attendance. Active participation in class and care simulations. Participation in discussions and group dynamics. Skill in performing procedures and tasks.

It takes 5 to pass the course

INSTRUMENT: Checklists. Teacher observation and notes on dexterity. Notes on execution of group dynamics. Examination protocols and acquired skills

WEIGHT: 20%.

ASPECT: Performing group work (ABP) and clinical cases

CRITERIA: Delivers properly structured and written jobs. Coherence of the work with the expected results and competences. Teamwork. Presentation and defense.

TOOL: Portfolio, presentation and oral defense

WEIGHT: 15%.
