3. CONTENT DESCRIPTION

Structural steel.

  • Basis of design: General rules and types of sections. 
  • Column Buckling.
  • Bending: Dent, Reinforced girders beams.
  • Cross sections type 4
  • Nodes: Types. Bolted joints. Welded joints
  • Foundation joints
  • Industrial buildings

Reinforced concrete:

  • Components: Dosing, properties and tests
  • Concrete installation, curing and transport
  • Limit states: Calculus
  • Steel volume
  • Concrete interaction diagram
  • Use of tables and dimensionless diagrams
  • Buckling and Shear calculus
  • Foundations and slabs

4. COURSE DESCRIPTION AND TEACHING METHODOLOGY

During lectures, the different sections included in the course's syllabus will be developed (Eurocodes 3 and 4 and Spanish Standars EHE and EAE). Student participation may take place at any time and doubts will be solved at the time.

During lectures the application problems will be solved in a participatory way and discussion of results and resolution methods will be exposed.

In Lab sessions, the structure of an industrial building will be calculated according to Standar Regulations. From design requirements to Structural integrity by using computational software. Then, student must work on their own and collect data to ellaborate a final report, to be submitted after a few days.

5. ASSESSMENT METHODOLOGY

The course is evaluated based on:

  • Active participation at lectures - 10%
  • Exam - 50%
  • Laboratory Reports - 30%
  • Attendance to planned visits - 10%

At the exam, the score of both theoretical and operating contents of  the course must be greater than zero in each of part, to pass the exam. 

In particular, the theoretical contents' weigth in the final exam is 30%, while the remaining 70% concerns operational exercices (problems)  

Additionally, the student is required to pass independently both the final exam and laboratory sessions
