These four chapters will go along with a selection of achoice of texts which match in thecorresponding topics.

1. The Battle of Maldon and  El Cantar del Mío Cid.
2. "The Reeve's Tale" and "Enxiemplo de don PitasPayas" ( Libro del buen amor).
3. Petrarchist Tradition in England and Spain: sonnetsby Thomas Wyatt, Henry Howard, Sir Philip Sidney, EdmundSpenser, and William Shakespeare compared widh sonnetsby  Garcilaso, Boscán, Lope de Vega,Góngora and Quevedo.
4. Development of Drama in England and Spain:   A Woman killed with Kindness  byThomas Heywoodcompared with  El castigo sin venganza byLope de Vega.
5. Poetas metafísicos, cavaliers y olímpicosingleses frente a barrocos yclasicistas española: poemas de diversos autoresingleses y españoles de este periodo.
6. Don Quixote in England: Don Quijote y Tom Jones (Henry Fielding).

4. COURSE DESCRIPTION AND TEACHING METHODOLOGY

Students will be provided with the classnotes of the topic whichwill be lectured and discussed in class. Classes will revolvearound these classnotes: concepts will be clarified, examples willbe provided and texts will be commented.

The lecturer will propose the choice readings both in Englishand Spanish (these with translation into English if necessary) aswell as the bibliographical source in order to carry out analysis and text commentary.

 

Students with special educational needs should contact the Student Attention Service (Servicio de Atención y Ayudas al Estudiante) in order to receive the appropriate academic support

5. ASSESSMENT METHODOLOGY

Assessment will be ruled by Royal Decree 1125/2003 of September5th by which the European Credit Transfer System is for officialuniversity degrees is established.

Active participation and attendance will be assessed with a 10 %rate of  the final grading. The lecturer will base thisportion of the assessment on the following aspects:

  • Regular class attendance.
  • Active participation in class.
  • Participation in discussion.
  • Signing in attendance list.

The mastery of the theoretical and practical concepts will beassessed through a written exam which will constitute 70 % of thefinal grading.

The remaining 20 % will be based on an individual paper. Thefollowing aspects will be taken into consideration: structure ofthe paper, delivery in time, quality of the written/oral expressionin English, quality of the content, originality, formal quality ofthe presentation. Plagiarism will be penalized with the loss of thegrading corresponding to this section.

The following competences will be taken into account: CB1, CB3, CB4, CB5, E01, E12, E13, E16, E21, G04, TO1, T03, T04.

The following learning outcomes will be taken into account: R01, R22, R23, R40, R41, R43, R44, R46, R47, R48, R54.
