Unit 1. 

Grammar: First conditional and future, time clauses + when, until

               Second conditional

               Usually and used to

Vocabulary: Education, houses, friendship, get

Pronunciation and listening: Sentence stress

Writing: Describing a house or flat

Unit 2.

Grammar: Quantifiers

               Articles: a/an, the, no article

               Gerunds and infinitives

Vocabulary: Noun formation, verbs and adjectives + prepositions, connectors, work

Pronunciation and listening:Sentence stress, word stress

Writing: Formal letters and a CV

Unit 3.

Grammar: Reported speech, statements, questions and commands

              Passive:be + past participle

              Relative clauses: Defining and non-defining

Vocabulary: Shopping, cinema, what people do

Pronunciation and listening: Consonant sounds, sentence stress, word stress

Writing: A film review

Unit 4. 

Grammar: Third conditional

               Question tags, indirect questions

               Phrasal verbs

Vocabulary: Making adjectives and adverbs, compound nouns, television, phrasal verbs

Pronunciation and listening: Sentence stress, intonation in question tags, revision of sounds, linking

Writing: An article for a magazine

Unit 5.

Grammar: Relative clauses: defining and non-defining

Vocabulary: Compound nouns, crime

Pronunciation and listening: Word stress

Writing: Telling a story

4. COURSE DESCRIPTION AND TEACHING METHODOLOGY

Theoretical classes will deal with the close examination of texts, previously read by students. Grammatical and vocabulary exercises as well as written production will be practiced in class.

Practical lessons will aim at improving oral expresion and listening comprehension, promoting student interaction through pair and group work.

Students with special educational needs should contact the Student Attention Service (Servicio de Atención y Ayudas al Estudiante) in order to receive the appropriate academic support

5. ASSESSMENT METHODOLOGY

Active attendance (including participation) is essential..

Class essay(s) will assess grammatical concepts, vocabulary, written production andreading comprehension.

Students will be required to make a 10-minute oral interview on a topic of their choice or suggested by the teacher, necessarily linked to a topic covered in class.
