3. CONTENT DESCRIPTION

THEORETICAL CONTENTS

Unit 1: Definition and  Massage Therapy history. 
Unit 2: Overview and Technical considerations on Massage Therapy. 
Unit 3: The physical fundamentals of Massage Therapy. 

Unit 4: Physiological effects of Massage Therapy.

Unit 5: Indications and contraindications of Massage Therapy.

Unit 6: Massage Therapy scientific evidence.
Unit 7: Fundamental maneuvers in Massage therapy. 
Unit 8: Special maneuvers in Massage Therapy. 

Unit 9: Massage Therapy by mechanical appliances. Aromatherapy.

Unit 10: Hydrotherapy, Balneotherapy and Talassotherapy. Hidrokinesiotherapy.

Unit 11:  Cryotherapy and superficial Thermotherapy.

 

PRACTICAL CONTENTS: 
Unit 1: Preparation, ergonomic conditions in Massage Therapy. Traditional European Massage.

Unit 2: Massage in back.
Unit 3: Massage in upper limbs.

back, chest , abdomen, lower limbs, , face and head. 
Unit 4: Massage in lower limbs 1.
Unit 5: Massage in lower limbs 2. Foot reflexology.
Unit 6: Massage in chest, abdomen and pelvic area.
Unit 7: Massage in facial and cranial area.

Unit 8: Scar massage. 

Unit 9: Pediatric massage. 

Unit 10: Massage Therapy by mechanical appliances. Cryotherapy and superficial thermotherapy. Students works presentation and practical demonstrations.

 

4. COURSE DESCRIPTION AND TEACHING METHODOLOGY

Activity 1: master classes to the general group

Activity 2: Laboratory Practice classes to small groups.

5. ASSESSMENT METHODOLOGY

Assessment tools, both theoretical and practical contents may change depending on the teacher's criteria.

The evaluation of other aspects of the subject (attitudes, role, attendance, class participation, etc.) may be integrated into the evaluation of the theoretical and practical content, if professors deemed it appropriate.
