3. CONTENT DESCRIPTION

  1. Social Work and Gender. Introduction. Basic Concepts: gender, women, feminisms, gender perspective, social construction of inequalities, mainstreaming, etc. Inequalities based on gender: intersectionality perspective. 
  2. Feminist Theories. Gender and social class, age, functional diversity, health, dependency, economy, family, ethnicity, religion, migration, sexual orientation. Social work with women / gender perspective /feminist perspective.
  3. Women and their contribution to Social Work professionalization. The history of women in Social Work: a profession of/to women. The women pioneer of Social Work.
  4. Women and Social Work in Spain. From the Church, to the women`s section and to the School of Social Work. The origins of the consolidation of a social profession in the frame of Welfare State.
  5. Family and gender. Employ and gender. The distribution of wealth. Health and gender. Public sphere, domestic sphere and gender. The concept of equality. Reasons to explain the gender perspective in professional activities of Social Work.
  6. Public policies and equal plans. Specific social services for women. Different actions and specific programs.
  7. Social Welfare and Women. Public policies for equality. Social Work with women. Levels of information, of prevention, of intervention, of evaluation.
  8.  The new ways of inequality, sexism, domination and gender violence: the myths of  "romantic love" as a factor of risk. Answers of intervention of Social Work.

 

4. COURSE DESCRIPTION AND TEACHING METHODOLOGY

Expositive classes of the teacher to explain the theoretical-practical contents of the subject. In large group.

Empirical classes in small group supervised by the teacher. One hour every week.

Visualization of documentals related to the topics of the subject. Content analysis of these .

Elaboration of a reflexive project about one of the topics selection of the subject.

Exam to evaluate the acquire of the knowledges

Students with special educational needs should contact the Student Attention Service (Servicio de Atención y Ayudas al Estudiante) in order to receive the appropriate academic support

5. ASSESSMENT METHODOLOGY

The evaluation system is to verify that the students have acquired the learning outcomes that are expected from the course. The evaluation will combine diverse methods :

- Final exam: to evaluate the study, acquire comprehension and application of the theoretical knowledge of the subject. It is necessary to pass the exam to add the rest of qualifications of the practices and participation in the class.

- Oral presentations in the class: individual or in group, about the topics of the subject and to develop practical activities related to specific competences. Good performance needs of regular attendance to the class and continuous work throughout the semester.

- Participation and active involvement of the students in the class.

- Performance in a group work developed in the class about one of the topics of the subject, with the teacher`s supervision. The attendance to these classes is obligatory. This work is not possible to be validated to other work.

The evaluation is global (it is the result of adding the qualification obtained in the different activities of the class: participation in the class, exam, practices
