3. CONTENT DESCRIPTION

Lesson 0. The dynamic Earth Surface. Rates of geological processes. Interaction between human activities and natural processes.

Lesson 1. Internal processes. Tectonic movements in the Earth Surface. Continuous versus abrupt processes, direct and indirect consequences. Processes in volcanic active areas.

Lesson 2. Hazardous external processes (A). Erosion and Slope Mass movements. Anthropic interactions. The new Anthropocene paradigm.

Lesson 3. Basic notions about slope stability. Stress and deformation applied to slope movements. Mohr-Coulomb equation and related factors. Slope stability conditions, anthropic alterations and sustainable stabilization measures.

Lesson 4. Hazardous external processes (B). Coastal environments, natural evolution and anthropic influence. Hazards and management of coastal environments.

Lesson 5. River mouths and estuarys. Subsidence and relative sea level changes. Anthropic equilibrium alteration. Other subsiding areas: identification and management.

Lesson 6. Inventories and hazards maps. Institutional databases. Identification, monitoring and analysis techniques of geologic processes modifying the Earth Surface. New cartographic techniques: drones

Lesson 7. Prediction, forecast and prevention. Monitoring. Early warnings.

4. COURSE DESCRIPTION AND TEACHING METHODOLOGY

In addition to the traditional classes, cartographic interpretation and analysis practices will be carried out in computer classrooms. Two field trips are programmed where students identify and analyse various problems and acquire the competence of data collection in situ. Students will present an individual bibliographical work or a small project about the data collected, that will be exposed front of their classmates and teachers.

Students with special educational needs should contact the Student Attention Service (Servicio de Atención y Ayudas al Estudiante) in order to receive the appropriate academic support

5. ASSESSMENT METHODOLOGY

Depending on the number of students, the weight of the evaluation instruments can vary from the following values, according to the master memory:

Theoretical practical exam: 20-80%

Delivery or exposition of the works solved 20-80%

The learning result of the module is the one that will be evaluated with these instruments.

In addition, with attendance and participation control in the field trip and projets, all competences related to the matter will be assessed.
