Block I. The role of art criticism

  1. Definition and functions of art criticism. Art criticism and writing: genders.
  2. Current debates on art criticism. Latest trends in criticism.
  3. Problems of music criticism.

 Block II. Cultural and artistic management. Models of artistic and cultural management: historical evolution, analysis and criticism within institutions.

  1. Institutions for contemporary art: case of study.
  2. The management of museum and concert hall. Manager.

 Block III. Cultural program and design.

  1. Design and development of art exhibitions.
  2. The musical program.
  3. Other art events .

4. COURSE DESCRIPTION AND TEACHING METHODOLOGY

A1. Exhibition classes in a large group:
-Theoretical classes of introduction of the thematic block.
-Theoretical class of presentation of complex and main transversal concepts and more representative international cases.

A2. Practical classes:
- Working group sessions around a practical case of production, management and art criticism: critical text commentary, art space criticism, criticism of virtual art spaces.
-Search missions in specific sources of information.
-Sessions of debate and contrast of theoretical concepts.

Students with special educational needs should contact the Student Attention Service (Servicio de Atención y Ayudas al Estudiante) in order to receive the appropriate academic support

5. ASSESSMENT METHODOLOGY

The evaluation is continuous through face-to-face activities and the tools established by the coordination and teaching staff of the subject.

More than 30% of absences of attendance in the subject supposes to realize obligatorily an examination of knowledge of which they are exempt the people that attend and realize the activities with normality in a 70% or more. Between 1% and 30% of absences, will be deducted from the grade proportionally without the need to take the exam. The faults are all justified, it will not be necessary to justify, since it is understood that the evaluation plan that is applied resolves this circumstance, since at this level of studies the responsibility is assumed and the non-attendance is given by a need that has been valued personally.

The evaluation of the subject is about 10 points, where 10 is the maximum score and 5.0 the minimum score of Approved. The total score is calculated according to a weighting between three partial notes: 2 points of attendance and participation, 2 points of works, cases or practical exercises and 6 points of theoretical concepts of the subject.

Attendance and participation is evaluated through the control of attendance by control of signatures in the classroom.

The realization of works, cases or exercises corresponds to the work of the practical classes, as proposed in each of the sessions and its contents.

The theoretical concepts of the subject are evaluated through a compulsory exercise of critical art or musical space.
