3. CONTENT DESCRIPTION

The course deals with the biochemical processes for first and second generation bioethanol production. Processes using raw materials like sugarbeet, sugarcane or starchy materials are studied. In addition, advanced processes for bioethanol production from residual biomass are presented.

Next, the production of biodiesel  from different raw materials aas well as the formation of by-products and their possible applications are studied.

Finally, the use of these liquid biofuels in automotive is exposed. The environmental advantages associated with their use are analyzed and the sustainability criteria are presented.
Finally, the current situation of the national and international biofuels market is addressed.

4. COURSE DESCRIPTION AND TEACHING METHODOLOGY

Lectures and seminars: Exposure of theoretical content and applied examples (Spanish language)

Laboratory sessions: Bioethanol and biodiesel processes  (Spanish language)

Other activities: Oral presentations by the students (They could be in English language for foreigner students). They will be focused on advanced technologies for second-generation biofuel production.

Students with special educational needs should contact the Student Attention Service (Servicio de Atención y Ayudas al Estudiante) in order to receive the appropriate academic support
