Types of pollutants. Pollutant cycles. Distribution of pollutants in the environment. Control mechanisms.

3. RISK ANALYSIS. EXPOSURE ESTIMATION, CHARACTERIZATION AND RISK ESTIMATE

Basic concepts. Use of risk analysis. Methodology and techniques. Hazard identification. Risk assessment. Determination of the risk. Risk communication. Exposure scenario. Route of exposure. Quantification of exposure. Exposure assessment. Pesticides. Application techniques.

4. SOIL TREATMENT SYSTEMS. ENVIRONMENTAL RESTAURATION

Remediation projects. Feasibility studies. Environmental restauration techniques. Biorestauration. Phytoratauration. Bioremediation. Extraction. Control techniques. Legal aspects.

5. LEGISLATION AND OFFICIAL CONTROL PLANS ON PESTICIDE RESIDUES

Maximum Residue Limits. EU and national legislation on pesticide residues. National and international monitoring programs.

6. METHODOLOGY OF SAMPLING AND ANALYSIS OF PESTICIDE RESIDUES

Introduction. Sampling: water, soil, leaf and olive oil. Sample Analysis: preparation, extraction, identification and quantification

7. PESTICIDE RESIDUE PROBLEMS IN OLIVES

Introduction. Persistence. Degradation pathways. Pollution mechanisms by poor agricultural practices.

8. PESTICIDE RESIDUE PROBLEMS IN OLIVE OILS

Introduction. Pollution mechanisms by bad industrial practices. Persistence. Degradation pathways.

4. COURSE DESCRIPTION AND TEACHING METHODOLOGY

An expository and learning methodology, that includes the implementation of three types of activities, will be used:

1) lectures of theory and problems


2) laboratory practice sessions

3) Both collective and individual tutorial work, which include supervision of studients evolution, advice and resolution of doubts and finally oral presentation by students of their works.

5. ASSESSMENT METHODOLOGY

In order to assess the aspects considered, it is necessary to monitor  the presence of the students
