1 Organization and quality assurance in the chemical laboratory. Diary of a lab. Planning and developing experiences.
2. Safety in the laboratory safety rules. Protection and emergency equipment. Danger of chemical substances. Waste disposal.
3. Basic material of the laboratory, name and description. Regular management and conditions of use.
4. Basic techniques and operations in the chemical laboratory. Applications.
Mass measurement: the balance. Preparation of solutions. Identification of ions in solution: recognition of cations and anions. Determination of vapor pressure. Precipitation and filtration of a chemical compound. Separation of components of a mixture. Simple and multiple L-L extraction. Tritations. Cryoscopy Galvanic and electrolytic cells. Chemical kinetics.
Practical sessions in the laboratory: a series of mandatory experiments will be carried out in the laboratory. The students will be responsible of all the operations that should be undertaken to control the experiences.
Seminars: They will be used to strength the knowledge of students in preparation of solutions and security in the handling of the material and reagents in the laboratory.
Practices in computer lab sessions: An introduction to the subject will be performed in this session. Tests about the subject will be done.
Students with special educational needs should contact the Student Attention Service (Servicio de Atención y Ayudas al Estudiante) in order to receive the appropriate academic support
To properly evaluate the knowledge and skills acquired in the laboratory, both a practice test and a written test will be done. A minimum mark of 4 is needed for the rest of the activities.
Evaluated skills:
- Written exam: B1, B2, B12, P1, P3, P6
- Escheme, procedures. B1, B2, B12, P6, P2
- Practical test and Teacher notes. B2, P6, P1, P3, P2
The evaluation system will be applied in both ordinary and extraordinary examination calls.
