4. COURSE DESCRIPTION AND TEACHING METHODOLOGY

The theoretical academic sessions constitute a classic (and basic) instrument for the acquisition of knowledge directed by the students (specific competences related to the subject). These sessions will be designed to interest students in the subject. The theoretical sessions will be supported by presentations in projector and blackboard. Likewise, the monitoring of the degree of use of these and the identification of faults in the transmission of knowledge will be carried out on a regular basis through group and individual tutoring and email, making use of the virtual teaching platform. The procedural and instrumental competences will be specially worked in the practical academic sessions in the computer classroom. The practical sessions respond to the need to give a practical aspect-applied to the knowledge acquired by the students in the theoretical sessions, as well as to the approximation of the students to their real execution in the professional field, and will be taught, as far as possible. the possible, in a parallel way. The exhibition of ideas, techniques and analysis of results, always directed towards the development of Projects, is a teaching technique applicable in this subject. Therefore, the following capacities will be worked: i) Acquisition of skills for the presentation of information and objective arguments and scientific basis to inform both from a technical and informative point, ii) Generation of ideas and argumentation, iii) Acquisition of environmental sensitivity, and iv) Acquisition of interpersonal tools in relation to the ability to interact with other colleagues.

Students with special educational needs should contact the Student Attention Service (Servicio de Atención y Ayudas al Estudiante) in order to receive the appropriate academic support

5. ASSESSMENT METHODOLOGY

The evaluation of the students will be based on the following elements:

The final grade of the course will consist of the sum of the grade obtained with the presentation and oral defense of a project related to Biology (up to 7 points) and the grade obtained after performing a theoretical-practical exam (up to 3 points). Because the final grade is summative of both parties, the non-performance of one of the parties (without justification) will indicate the rejection of the note that could have been obtained in it.

During the final seminars will take place the oral defense of the projects carried out during the course in which will be assessed (up to 7 points) the ability of students to synthesize and expose the results of the original project developed during the course according to the competences acquired (CE58, CE59, CE60, CE61). In this original project the students will show the methodological development acquired in the practical sessions (designed to cover in a concatenated way the different tasks of a Project). The quality and originality of the work will be evaluated, the appropriate structure of the scientific-technical report presented and the quality of the included sections, as well as the public defense capacity of the project.

The theoretical and practical parts of the subject will be evaluated (up to 3 points) by means of a single written examination where the competences acquired (all the transversal competences plus the CE62) are revealed in terms of cognitive and procedural aptitudes. In this sense, the capacities of integration, synthesis and interpretation of the information will be specially valued through the answer to written questions that gather theoretical and applied aspects.

Attendance at seminars and practices will be mandatory. As it is indicated in the section of formative activities, the individual behavior will be taken into account, as well as the collaboration and participation during the same ones according to the competence CG13
