3. CONTENT DESCRIPTION

This course is focused on the musical works, styles, and ideas that have proven most influential, enduring, and significant of Spanish and Latin American history from 1492-1898. It encompasses a wide range of music, from religious to secular, from serious to humorous, from art music to popular music. The music is place in its artistic, social and historical context for each repertoire to reveal its legacy and its significance today. The main aims of the course are:

  1. Knowing the concept of 'musical heritage' and its aplication to the Spanish and Iberoamerican fields.
  2. Analysing the music relations of between Spain and Iberoamerica from 1492 to 1898 from an integrated perspective.
  3. Evaluating the significance of the music in relation in its cultural and artistic framework.
  4. Using in a autonomous and creative way diverse musical sources of information for music (scores, texts, audiovisual presentations, etc.).
  5. Promoting the hearing of musical works as way of esthetic and artistic expression.

This course acts as a complement to Fundamentals of Musical Expression and Its Evolution, which is focused on the Western music tradition.

4. COURSE DESCRIPTION AND TEACHING METHODOLOGY

Daily activities, listenings, exercises and readings of scores and texts and related to the theorical and practical contents. Final e xam paper. Presentations.

5. ASSESSMENT METHODOLOGY 

The global score will respond to the weighted score of the
different aspects and activities that make up the evaluation system
(see its explanation in detail in the previous point).
