4. COURSE DESCRIPTION AND TEACHING METHODOLOGY

Lectures will be devoted to the analysis of the social and historical background of the chosen authors and works.We will use the subject's handbook and the teacher's presentations of the lectures, which will be uploaded to the web.

Practical sessions will focus on the reading and analysis of the selected works, which belong to different periods of English and American literature. Those texts and a reading guide will be available in the "plataforma de docencia virtual". Students must read and study them before the practical sessions. They should also be prepared to discuss them with the teacher and other classmates.

Students with special educational needs should contact the Student Attention Service (Servicio de Atención y Ayudas al Estudiante) in order to receive the appropriate academic support

5. ASSESSMENT METHODOLOGY

The final mark includes:

a) Active participation in class discussions and group work

b) Final exam, where the following aspects will be evaluated:The exam will evaluate students' knowledge about the following issues:

-Students' knowledge about English and American literary history since the beginnings till the contemporary age (Short questions and essay-like questions)

-Identification of the most relevant works and authors

-Literary comments on a selection of texts

c) A short essay will be written during a one-hour session. It will focus on a text previously read by the students.

The assessment procedure S1 develops competences  CB2, CB4, E01and G11. These competences lead to learning outcomes R10 and  R11.

The assessment procedure S2 develops competences CB1, E12, E13, E22 and E23. These competences lead to learning outcomes R13, R14 and R20.

The assessment procedure S3 develops competences CB3, CB5, E15 and G04. These competences lead to learning outcomes R04 and R15.
