The field of Urban Anthropology. Anthropology in the city and Anthropology of the city. Tour of the main theoretical developments of Urban Anthropology. The non-places. Urban poverty. The culture of poverty. Living conditions of the poor. Residential segregation: marginal neighborhoods, ghettos and shanty towns. Urbanism and social inequality. Deficit of infrastructures and problems of housing in urban nuclei. Urban groups and youth subcultures: youth, gangs and "tribes". Immigrant foreign population: living conditions in urban contexts. Partnerships and mutual aid networks. Cities in the context of globalization. Globalization and socio-spatial transformations. Ethnography in the city: the difficulties of fieldwork in marginalized urban enclaves.

Completion of a written abstract and commentary of some of the books included in the bibliography. The books have to be previously agreed with the teacher of the subject.

The evaluation of the students will be carried out according to the following activities: participation in the activities carried out in the classes; written exam; Participation and performance in collective tutoring; Ethnographic research work.

These activities evaluate all the competences assigned to the subject: E1, E4, E11, E15, E18, E19, E20, G1, G2, G3, G4, G5.
