Chapter 2. Electronic design. Introduction

  • Programmable logic. Types, advantages, disadvantages
  • Microcontrollers and microprocessors
  • Hardware platforms.

Chapter 3. Sensors and signal conditioning

  • Measurement systems.Introduction
  • Analogue sensors. Types
  • Smart sensors
  • Signal conditioning

Chapter 4. Hardware design methodology

  • Bottom-up
  • Top-down

Chapter 5. Design tools: prototyping, CAD-EDA

  • Electronics simulation programs
  • Printed Circuit Board design programs

 

PRACTICAL LESSONS

Section 1: Electronics simulation programs (Pspice and PCB)

Section 2: Basic Electronic Design

Section 3: Electronics Integration

4. COURSE DESCRIPTION AND TEACHING METHODOLOGY

The practical part is going to have an important weight in the subject. The objective will be to set up the theoretical knowledge with the development of the practical classes.

At the beginning, while the theoretical knowledge is advanced, management of simulation and prototyping software programs will be acquired. Next, some basic electronic integration designs will be propose for the students to understand and improve them in the practical classes. The evaluation of the subject would be supported by an improved electronic integration based on the basic designs that have been offered.

There are 4 ETCS, 1 corresponds to practical activities and 3 to theoretical classes. 0.8 ETCS will be given by professionals from a company: conferences, company visits, etc.

Students with special educational needs should contact the Student Attention Service (Servicio de Atención y Ayudas al Estudiante) in order to receive the appropriate academic support

5. ASSESSMENT METHODOLOGY

The subject appreciates theoretical and practical knowledge. A practical design will be proposed to include almost the whole subject. A theoretical and practical exam will be done for those students that don’t pass the practice design.   

Theory: exam and problems.

Practice: laboratory designs.

Qualifications: 45% of the mark is the theoretical module. 45% of the mark is the practical module. Both modules must be got pass independently. The rest 10% consist of the assessment of attendance, participation and acquired skills during the student work (3%-7%).
