4. COURSE DESCRIPTION AND TEACHING METHODOLOGY

We will follow a mixed methodology made of room lectures and diverse support materials which will be avaialable on ILIAS (online teaching site at UJA). Please, get access and get familiar with ILIAS as soon as possible.

The subject will develop on four sessions per week. Three of them will focus on the presentation and discussion of theoretical contents and one more session will be devoted to practical activities. These practical activities will consist on:

- Access and computer processing of data that are relevant for the study of social and human development both at the national level and cross-nationally.

- Construction and interpretation of diverse developmental indicators with the focus on the components of the Human Development Index.

- Debate around a small selection of readings and/or audiovisual materials.

Some of these activities will be scored and they will partake of your final grade in this course. All these grading exercises will be announced and assigned with enough time and they must be submitted on ILIAS. I will report on the modality of the exercise (individual/team work) conveniently. For team work, a note on the specific responsability and tasks taken by each member of the team will be always required.

Enjoy this course!

Students with special educational needs should contact the Student Attention Service (Servicio de Atención y Ayudas al Estudiante) in order to receive the appropriate academic support

5. ASSESSMENT METHODOLOGY

The evaluation system is quite straightforward.

Attendance to room lectures IS NOT mandatory, though recommendable.

Over the course, brief evaluation exercises will be done on  ILIAS (virtual space of teaching) which will contain theoretical and practical contents. That will amount up to 6 (out of 10) points of your final grade.

To that, up to 4 more points will be added from practical exercises that will be assigned and submitted on ILIAS.

The minimum score to pass this course under the former system is 5, no matter where the 5 points come from.

Those students who do not attain the minimum grade to pass the subject in that way will have the right to use the ordinary and/or extraordinary calls for final examinations scheduled by UJA. In such case the final grade will be entirely based on the result of the final examination.
