4. COURSE DESCRIPTION AND TEACHING METHODOLOGY

The activities to be carried out are divided into several categories:

A1. EXHIBITION CLASSES IN A LARGE GROUP. Presentation of the main theoretical-practical contents. Although students are led by the teacher, they also have an active role in the resolution of cases and problems, during face-to-face sessions and they involve a significant proportion of autonomous work assigning to the subject. They will also be used for the presentation of the preliminary project that will be carried out in small groups.

A2. CLASSES IN PRACTICES GROUPS. They are carried out mainly in the computer classroom.

A2.1) individual: resolution of numerical problems, use of software, case studies or search and analysis of information on a specific topic. In general, these activities will be delivered at the specified times and will be evaluated.

A2.2) collective or group: students will work in small groups. They will carry out the activities and deliver them to the teacher to evaluate them. The most characteristic group activity is the writing, presentation and defense of a simplified project, before the large group. In the project, the main tools and contents should be applied, both in the lectures and in the practical sessions, including the economic estimation, the analysis of alternatives, the project management software and the technical-economic evaluation.

Each small group must present, at least, one activity to the large group, which will be discussed among all.

A3 COLLECTIVE / INDIVIDUAL TUTORIES. Destined basically to the orientation and resolution of doubts and to the supervision of directed works.

A4. EXTERNAL PRACTICES. They consist of a technical visit to an industrial facility in which the practical application of the contents of the subject is shown.

Students with special educational needs should contact the Student Attention Service (Servicio de Atención y Ayudas al Estudiante) in order to receive the appropriate academic support

5. ASSESSMENT METHODOLOGY

Assistance and participation: 10%. With this element, competition B13 (Initiative and Entrepreneurial Spirit) will be specially evaluated. For the evaluation of the attendance it will be computed that the total of absences to the classes is not superior to 15% of the same ones.

Theoretical concepts of the subject: exam, represents 30%. The competences most directly related to this element of evaluation are the capacity for organization and planning (B2) and the competence to present written material and scientific arguments to a specialized audience (Q5).

Realization of works, cases or exercises: (Assigned works) represents 60%.

This element of evaluation may include: Presentation and evaluation of numerical problems delivered on the established date; the presentation and evaluation of assignments related to the use of computer programs; and the presentation and defense of the project (in this case there will be a part of the qualification corresponding to group work and another part to the individual part, including the exhibition).

The competences directly related to this elements of the evaluation are to have the capacity to design and execute projects in Chemistry (C36), teamwork (B8), the capacity of organization and planning (B2) and the competence to present, both in written and oral form, material and scientific argmentation to a specialized audience (Q5). Because it appears in the RUCT memory, the capacity to carry out risk assessments related to the use of chemical substances and laboratory procedures (P6) must also be mentioned.

To be able to take the theoretical exam and therefore pass the course, it will be essential to attend all practical computer sessions and the execution and defense of the project.
