3. CONTENT DESCRIPTION

PROGRAM OF THEORY

SECTION I. AGRICUL T UR AL ENTOMOLOGY

UNIT 1. Concept of pest and disease. Ecological and agronomic considerations. Direct and indirect control methods. Integrated control of pests and diseases.

UNIT 2. Identification, life cycle, damage and control methods of the pests that affect root and lower area of the trunk of the olive tree.

UNIT 3. Identification, life cycle, damage and control methods of the pests that affect the modification and main branches of the olive tree.

UNIT 4. Identification, life cycle, damage and control methods of the pests that affect the secondary branches of the olive tree.

UNIT 5. Identification, life cycle, damage and methods of the pests that affect branches terminals and outbreaks of the olive tree.

UNIT 6. Identification, life cycle, damage and control methods of the pests that affect the leaves of the olive tree.

UNIT 7. Identification, life cycle, damage and control methods of the pests that affect flowers dl olive wood.

UNIT 8. Identification, life cycle, damage and control methods of the pests that affect the fruits of the olive tree.

SECTION II. PLANT PATHOLOGY

UNIT 9. Diseases caused by fungi (I). Spilocaea oleagina, and Pseudocercospora cladosporioides.

UNIT 10. Diseases caused by fungi (II). Colletotrichum gloeosporioides.

UNIT 11. Diseases caused by fungi (III). Verticillium dahliae (verticilosis).

UNIT 12. Diseases caused by fungi (IV). Camarosporium dalmaticum  and Capnodium elaeophilum.

UNIT 13. Diseases caused by bacteria. Forming bacteria tumors ( Pseudomonas savastanoi, Agrobacterium tumefaciens) and Xilella fastidiosa (rapid drought of the olive tree).

UNIT 14. Other biotic diseases olive.

UNIT 15. Abiotic Diseases of the olive tree.

PROGRAM OF PRACTICES

 - Diagnosis of the verticilosis of the olive tree

-  Isolation of pathogenic from vegetable sick fabric

-  Field practice

4. COURSE DESCRIPTION AND TEACHING METHODOLOGY

 

THEORETICAL CLASSES 2 ECTS

Classes using the TICs and with the support of the educational material in the platform of virtual teaching of the university, library and Internet.

ACADEMICALLY DIRECTED ACTIVITIES 0,9 ECTS

Exhibitions and seminars for the study of cases using the TICs and the support of the educational material in the platform of virtual teaching of the university, library and Internet. They contribute that the student acquires the corresponding competitions.

PRACTICAL CLASSES 1,1 ECTS

LABORATORY CLASSES

It will be realized by at the laboratory, in a limited groups of work. The teacher will explain the foundations and development of the practices. The students, with the support of the script of practices, will realize the corresponding procedures to reach  the results that they will have to analyze and discuss in order to obtain a final conclusions. The script of practices will be available in the platform of virtual teaching of the university and will include the aims, the material and the experimental methodology, and will be used in addition for the withdrawal and treatment of the results.

FIELD PRACTICES.

It will be realized by limited groups of work out of the classrooms. The teacher will explain the foundations and development of the practices and the pupils will realize the corresponding procedures with the support of the available script of practices at the virtual platform of teaching of the university. In the above mentioned script they will have to gather the results of the practical classes, analyze them and discuss them to obtain conclusions.

Students with special educational needs should contact the Student Attention Service (Servicio de Atención y Ayudas al Estudiante) in order to receive the appropriate academic support

5. ASSESSMENT METHODOLOGY

 

A theoretical examination will be realized in the date programmed on that it will depend 60 % of the final score. On the active participation in the theoretical classes it will depend 20 % of the final score, whereas a 20 % will correspond to the quality originality, documentation and presentation of the practical works.
