3. CONTENT DESCRIPTION

  1. Cyberspace: 1.1-Speaking and writing: Talking about e-mail and the Internet. 1.2-Reading and listening texts: Interview. Reading a text. 1.3-Grammar, lexis and pronunciation.'Will' for prediction. Discourse markers.
  2. Law: 2.1-Speaking and writing: Discussing crimes. Writing a tabloid article about a reading text. 2.2-Reading and listening texts: Extracts from court cases. 2.3-Grammar, lexis and pronunciation: Modals. Vocabulary of the courtroom.
  3. Sports: 3.1-Speaking and writing: Discussing challenges. 3.2-Reading and listening texts: Text: A famous mountaineer. Friends discussing and talking about something. 3.3-Grammar, lexis and pronunciation: Contrast. Passives. Word stress.
  4. Stories: 4.1-Speaking and writing: Talking about stories. Writing an article about storytellers. 4.2-Reading and listening texts: Interview with a storyteller. Short story. 4.3-Grammar, lexis and pronunciation: Telling stories. Compound adjectives.
  5. Words: 5.1-Speaking and writing: Talking about words. Writing an invitation. 5.2-Reading and listening texts: Conversations including new words. 5.3-Grammar, lexis and pronunciation: Patterns with 'have'. New words in English.

4. COURSE DESCRIPTION AND TEACHING METHODOLOGY

The classes will be a combination of theoretical and practical aspects.

5. ASSESSMENT METHODOLOGY

  1. Attendance and participation in class. 20%
  2. Final exam. 50%
  3. Group presentation.

There will be an alternative assessment system for those students who cannot attend regularly (1). These students must tell the teacher about this circumstance in the first four weeks of the course.
