Fieldwork

5-6 fieldtrips around the study centre where students will apply the theories, concepts and basic principles in geological fieldwork

Practice

            Previous fieldtrip (in classroom)

  1. Analysing the geology of the study area on regional maps (MAGNA)
  2. Geological photointerpretation I

During fieldtrip (in field)

  1. Geological mapping
  2. Stratigraphic logs and geological sections

After fieldtrip (in laboratory and classroom)

  1. Samples processing
  2. Stereographic exercises
  3. Completing the lithologic surfaces drawed on aerial photographs and geological mapping on the topographic map
  4. Fieldwork report

4. COURSE DESCRIPTION AND TEACHING METHODOLOGY

Course description and teaching methodology [1]: Tutorial support sessions, materials and exams in english.

Lecture (Theory): Master classes using Power Point presentations in english

1 Hours per week

Lecture (Practice): Geological fieldtrips, geometrical exercises, geological photointerpretation, geological mapping, rock recognition and work with samples in the laboratory

3 Hours per week

Homework: Finishing the practice work not completed in classroom

6 Hours per week

Students with special educational needs should contact the Student Attention Service (Servicio de Atención y Ayudas al Estudiante) in order to receive the appropriate academic support

5. ASSESSMENT METHODOLOGY

Assessment methodology:

Evaluation criteria: 1) Elaborates geological maps, sections and logs of geologically easy areas, 2) describes main features of geological formations in field, 3) analyses and processing field data and field samples, 4) elaborates a report with the geological information obtained in the field

Evaluation procedures: Continuous assesment of each student with fielwork, notebooks and final report. Interest in class. Final test/exam in line with the contents presented in the classroom.
