3. CONTENT DESCRIPTION

  1. Theories underpinning CALL: constructivism, activity theory, and sociocultural theory.
  2. Defining CALL: from computer assisted language learning to technology enhanced learning contexts.
  3. Relevant concepts in SLA: authenticity, autonomy, noticing / focus on form.
  4. Applications: 3.1 CALL software and resources (including games) 3.2 Computer-mediated communication: Social media - email, discussion forums, blogs, wikis, Twitter, Facebook. The emergence of MALL. 3.3 Uses of corpora
  5. Evaluating CALL
  6. Investigation of language learners' use of technology

4. COURSE DESCRIPTION AND TEACHING METHODOLOGY

Lecturers will employ the following devides for the teaching of this class:

  1. Lectures intended for the whole class using ICTs.
  2. Virtual discussion groups, to which all students must cntribute in a meaningful way.
  3. Written assignment, for the preparation of which students will take part in personalized tutorials.

 

Students with special educational needs should contact the Student Attention Service (Servicio de Atención y Ayudas al Estudiante) in order to receive the appropriate academic support

5. ASSESSMENT METHODOLOGY

Assesment will be based on:

  1. Active participation in virtual forum discusions (20%).
  2. Exercise completion (10%).
  3. Adequate use of ICT resources in the foreign language classroom (10%).
  4. Writing assignment according to the guidelines provided by the lecturers (60%).
