Theory
Block 1. Natural hazards. Concepts and terminology. Risk and catastrophe. Prediction and prevention. Classification of risks. Impact of risks. Risk mapping.
Block 2. Risk processes. Risks related to the internal dynamics: seismic and volcanic. Risks associated with external dynamic: landslides, erosion, flooding.
Block 3. Risk and disaster management. Risk assessment. Preparedness processes. Early warning systems. Crisis response. Map mashups, witness and demand response services. Actions for the recovery.
Block 4. Data and models in crisis management. Data capture for crisis management. Sensors. Data types. Operational data models. Models for navigation and evacuation. Geospatial Systems for Decision Support.
Practices:
Practice 1. Examples of analysis and risk assessment: seismic risk and landslides risk.
Practice 2. Example of navigation in a crisis scenario. Navigation with obstacles and moving obstacles.
The lectures will include keynote presentations of theoretical
concepts of the subject and examples, as well as conferences on
issues of interest.
Practical classes include practical problems supported by
ICT tools in the computer classroom.
Students with special educational needs should contact the Student Attention Service (Servicio de Atención y Ayudas al Estudiante) in order to receive the appropriate academic support
To pass the subject will be necessary to pass the theoretical
examination and practical work of the subject independently.
The final score of the subject will be calculated taking
into account the weighting of each of the parts (theory and
practices).
