3. CONTENT DESCRIPTION

This course intends to complete the background and skills acquired related to contamination of soil and water and their significance in the environment.

Unit 3. EU Framework regulations concerning water quality

Unit 4. Quality parameters of water.

Unit 5. Analytical Methods for the determination of contaminants in water (1)

Unit 6. Analytical Methods for the determination of contaminants in water (2)

Unit 7. Analytical Methods for the determination of contaminants in water (3)

Unit 8. Introduction. The nature and properties of soils

Unit 9. Soil contamination.

Unit 10. Salinity induced soil degradation

Unit 11. Soil degradation from agrochemical practices

Unit 12.  Soil degradation by heavy metals and organic contaminants

Unit 14. Technologies for soil amendment

4. COURSE DESCRIPTION AND TEACHING METHODOLOGY

For exchange students: teaching support, materials, seminar papers and exams in English. For regular Spanish students the default teaching language will be Spanish. Exchange international students can electively join regular courses in Spanish whenever they wish.

During laboratory classes, exchange students will be provided of appropriate material also in English.

Students with special educational needs should contact the Student Attention Service (Servicio de Atención y Ayudas al Estudiante) in order to receive the appropriate academic support

5. ASSESSMENT METHODOLOGY

Written exam (70 %) combined with the evaluaction of two activities: lab course and a presentation selected from a list of topics (30 %)
